It is being discussed on the Stores Board at eBay to initiate a boycott of auction listings for the week of Aug. 14-21, 2006.

The actual originating thread I am referring to is:
http://forums.ebay.com/db2/thread.jspa?threadID=1000333644&start=0

Some members are even thinking of boycotting all together.

The point is to make eBay hear the sellers.

Thank you,
Michele

Ebay laughs at temporary boycotts and stores put on vacations. I quit reading posts that talk about "temporary" boycotts and vacations.

Do...or do not...there is no try.

Dang...almost posted over there...but what's the use of telling them? They won't listen. 10 day boycott? 150 sellers? Ebay won't even notice.

Blessings to you too, dear refugee. Welcome here and take a look around. Hopefully you'll find lots of other sites you can list at. Lots of helpful people here. Don't mind me...my store is still open and I'm still mad. LOLOLOL

 Thank you, Sylvia... You know, I kind of feel like a refugee (not to discount true refugees, of course  )... I just couldn't take it anymore, and even though leaving my store has put me in a financial quandrium (sp?), I had to... Like you said, do it or don't, no try :)...

Thank you for your kind words and I'm working my tail off to make it Elsewhere...

Blessings,
Michele

I think it's great that sellers are taking a stand. Sellers often underestimate their power and influence in matters such as these. They have every right to speak out against eBay, a site that shows no compassion for its members.

This is important and I thank the original poster for bringing this to our attention.

Do people know about this? Have YOU told anyone? I sent an email to the yahoo groups that I'm part of letting them know. Please get the word out. If nothing else, maybe it will bring to light that there are actually problems at ebay. (someone mentioned in another thread that so many people have no idea.)

I've written up an email if anyone wants to edit and use it.

Subject Line is --- Alert: Ebay Boycott 2006 starts Aug. 14

An ebay boycott is planned to begin August 14th. This is to protest the store fee hike that will take effect the following week.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Their proposal (my proposal follows theirs)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Who?
Buyers and sellers

What?
Buyers - if you do buy something, make sure it is from a store listing.
Sellers - do not list any auction items.

When?
one week starting August 14th (Monday)

Why?
fee hike protest and just the general garbage that is going on at ebay. The greed, lack of service. I could go on and on. And we do over at psu. http://www.powersellersunite.com
(This site is for everyone, not just powersellers. I have never been a powerseller and I have been helped greatly.)

Where?
Do not buy from ebay auctions.
Do not sell ebay auctions.
If you buy, do so from store listings.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now here's MY take on it.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Who?
Buyers and sellers

What?
Don't buy or sell anything on ebay, ever.
Search http://www.froogle.com for what you are looking for. Support the sellers that have left ebay and are trying to support their families off ebay.

Why?
Ebay stinks. They are full of crooks. (not the sellers, the management)

When?
Forever. Start today. Never look back.

Where?
Shop at any site that feeds to froogle. Type in your wanted item in their search box and then "-ebay" and it will pull up items available at other places.

Sellers - list on sites that feed to froogle. Save your customers money by saving money on fees. Get a free store at http://www.blujay.com with no listing fees, no fvfs. If you prefer auction style listings, list for free at http://www.hibidder.com The site is growing like crazy. They feed to froogle automatically. They do have small fvfs.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are so many things you need to know
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
visit powersellersunite, it will open your eyes. i know there are still those out there that have no idea of the fraud that goes on at ebay - and it's in the management. "errors" that are always in ebay's favor. it's bad and you need to know about it.

your items in turbolister can be exported into hibidder - i've done it. there are step-by-step instructions and wonderful customer service workers to help you out.

froogle, froogle, froogle.

get the word out.

sign petitions - there is a petition to get meg booted. there is a petition to get google to start an auction site. (links available on psu)

Ranetwork:

I like your version better - I'm going to 'drop it' to a few hundred of my closest friends who are buyers moreso than sellers on ebaY and the internet in general.

Thanks 4 bumping this and keeping it in the spotlight!! :D :D

Is it possible to contact all Anchor store
owners and get them involved as surely
they must know by know that these fee
hikes will just keep increasing year after
year.

So a real listing boycott but by the big boys
and those already in and then many more sellers
would follow.

And also doing the ideas by ranetwork

this would be a great place for many to
write on their blog

Mutiny on the eBay

and found at

and some interesting posts over there on the Stores board

E-Bay breeches anti-trust law by opening stores everywhere but US

International sales down? Here's the reason!

Filing a complaint with the Beaurea of Competition

Goog Auctions?

Another for Goog Auctions

Why is Meg Whitman Still CEO? Her approval rating is a whole 4%!?!?

UK items showing up when I select "US only"--another glitch?

and another way to get their attention is to not utilize their
other services like Skype or list on half.com or even yahoo auctions
since those two are working togethter now and CraigsList because
eBay owns 1/4 of their stock. But people have to do what is best
for them but the idea is any company eBay is associated go on
strike there to or maybe just drop them altogether.

I think the point would be made if not only did ebay store owners boycott, but also mass list on other sites.

Ebay and the stockholders would take note if they dropped in listings while the other sites doubled.

right now ebay thinks they can get away with it because sellers don't go to the other sites.

If not getting the biggest sellers on eBay to
participate in the boycott or strike, it to me
would have next to no impact. But would
get some exposure so still worth trying.

As many listing drop off eBay gives another
lower fee day and they I bet have that planned
for any announced boycott days.

The Anchor stores could also downgrade
to at least Featured stores and that I bet
would get eBay's attention.

Just my thoughts.

ebay really has nothing to worry about in aug.. every store is going to get one last list at the cheaper rate.. so aug 21 will probably be the largest listing day of the year.

come sept 22 and october when the large stores have to start paying .10 per listing. the largest store has 350,000 listings right now ( est ). come sept they will be paying ebay 35,000 instead of 7,000..

i think the boycott will happen on it's own once store owners get thier first invoice at the higher fees

I love this input, it's great.

who is willing to send these suggestions around to 100+ of their friends? i was poking around on ebay to see just how many email addresses were listed in postings and found some. that's a start. (if you are willing to get further involved in this, please let me know.)

let's suggest all of these things. editing my email to include the things you've suggested.

let's get the word out. here's an updated version of the email.
