has anyone here been successful in configuring mozilla thunderbird as their email client for squirrelmail? it is supposed to be possible, using the MrPostman app as an interface. i like to think myself at least somewhat intelligent, but i have been referring to the MrPostman help file all afternoon, changing settings, and getting nowhere.
any help at all would be greatly appreciated, thanks... |

huckster - welcome to PSU. I'm using FF TBird Mail, but not with the application you suggest. Best of luck working thru this - I hope you find the answers...
BTW - the help files and the FAQ at Mozilla are reasonably helpful - I suppose you already looked there - eh?  |

I've been using Mozilla suite as my general email client for several years. I also use it to download my Gmail and it works fine. I have a program for my Yahoo mail, but it stopped working quite a while ago. I never heard of squirrelmail.
For Gmail I just set it up like any new account in Mozilla. You just have to know the numbers that Gmail uses for it's servers. I would think it would be similar for that too.

thanks for the welcome and for the responses!
i don't know what i was smoking yesterday, but it turns out you don't actually need a 3rd party app to config thunderbird to handle squirrelmail. from something i'd read yesterday i was left with the impression that squirrelmail used a proprietary email protocol that required an interface solution, but it appears this is not the case.
when i attacked the problem with "fresh eyes" today, i decided to reset all thunderbird config settings back to their defaults and start from scratch. (i had made some changes per the MrPostman app help file instructions.) once i returned the mail server port setting to its default, and corrected the mail server user name, everything was ducky. now i'm setting up multiple accounts, and sending and receiving squirrelmail with thunderbird w/no problem. so squirrelmail must not use proprietary protocol after all.
the MrPostman app and a few other thunderbird extensions like the WebMail extension might prove useful for others wanting to configure thunderbird for use with hotmail, yahoo mail, or other proprietary providers so i guess my learning experience wasn't a total loss... |

Yea squirrelmail is just a web interface to check your email.
None the less I am glad that got your email working with thunderbird. |
