[b]I noticed when selling items I was being charged  by paypal as well as ebay; which I could not understand as I had a personal account not a business one? Anyhow I emailed them and a few days later they said I had requested my account be upgraded. I emailed them back and said no I didn't. I also asked about the charges, they said they would not refund them  but they would put my account back to a personal account.
Paypal emailed today to say my account was now a personal account. :D However, if a buyer used paypal and used a credit card, my account would become a business account again. And that I can not stop them using a credit card on Paypal. it is up to the buyer how they pay on paypal.
I am starting not to like Paypal |

From my experience, Lynette is 100% correct - so long as you're not selling on ebaY! ebaY changed their policies recently (within the last year) and sellers are no longer allowed to specify which type of PP funds - it's an all or nothing option there.
On other sites, you do have more freedom to set your payment policies as you decide!!! So - if using alternative sites, you are allowed to say - will accept paypal but available funds or bank transfers only - no Credit Cards!!
Best of luck with your dilemma - they get ya coming and going - 4 sure!!  |

PayPal is the fast, easy, and secure way to receive payments on eBay. When you list your item with PayPal as a payment method, your buyers can pay you securely online with a credit card or checking account.
PayPal provides:
* Instant payments on eBay items. Get paid faster than with a check or money order.
* A comprehensive Seller Protection program.
* Online sales management tools.
* The ability to require immediate payment for Buy It Now items.
* The option of automatically paying your eBay fees from your PayPal account.
For sellers, there is a small fee for each payment completed through PayPal. However, there are no setup fees, no monthly fees, and no minimum charge requirements.
You don’t need to sign up with PayPal to offer PayPal on your listings. Just select PayPal as a payment method on eBay's Sell Your Item form, enter the e-mail address where you want payment sent, and you'll be ready to receive online payment from your buyers. You’ll be asked to sign up once you receive your first payment.
Important: If you offer PayPal as a payment option on eBay (either using logos or text in the item description) you must accept all forms of PayPal payment including account balance, bank account transfer, and credit cards (see PayPal Payments Policy).
To learn more about PayPal or to sign up, visit PayPal. If you have a PayPal question, please contact PayPal Customer Support.
This has been their "Selling With PayPal" policy for awhile. Love it or leave it, it is what it is. As sellers, we have to keep up with all the policies on the sites we list on, whether it's one or several. I'm not saying that to be mean, but it prevents surprises like this. They change their policy and you don't like it? Change your payment methods like Joe did, or we move our business, like I did. Sorry about what happened mamapeapod.

Mamapeapod:
I too am sorry for your 'issue'. It is a dilemma. I just 'go with it' but will say that I do also accept MO and CC - and I'm surprised at how many buyers will use these options.
I know some sellers that keep the business account status, include the anticipated fees in their item, and then off a relative discount if the buyer uses a MO or CC to pay. That's another strategy to consider!
Best of efforts - it does stink 4 sure!! |

mamapeapod, I hate paypal, too! There's a lot of fine print and invisible print that you have to deal with. Plus, there is absolutely NOTHING that can protect you from scam buyers practicing chargebacks while keeping your items, which will leave you OUT your items AND the money. Then, you'll have to pay all of it back. There aren't any fraud prevention measures in place.
I use Google Checkout (for US sellers) and just signed up and verified myself with moneybookers (haven't used them yet though). GoogleCheckout takes 3 or 4 business days to clear but they take every precaution against fraud and validate all the buyer's info. Moneybookers is a UK-based company and are quite vigilent about verifying members' identities and are under strict UK regulations. |

Moneybookers is great I concur
Don't forget for Canada you have options like Certapay , and may be able to use it with Canadian branches in the USA ,at very least for your Canuck clients. Same goes with Hyperwallet another reputable service with ties to Canadian banking. Also Interac has a new service for merchants ,Interac Online. All those services are very reputable. |
