Good Morning.

I hope someone here can help me. I am new to PSU and completely computer illiterate! Email is sometimes a challenge for me! So please excuse any stupid questions and sorry if I am posting in the wrong place.

I've been reading the questions here and I think I'm in the same situation as Papi, only I don't understand any of the DNS stuff or pointing to servers. I'm lost!
I am building a site on Yahoo, using their Sitebuilder program. with the help of LurkeyLou (Thank you Rhonda) I have been working on this for several weeks and have really worked hard on it, but have had a couple experiences with Yahoo already that I wasn't real happy about. Rhonda pointed me this way, but I don't want to have to start all over again. Here's my questions:

Can I transfer what I have to PSU? Or do I have to use the templates you have?
If it can be transferred, is it a difficult process? Do I need to know technical stuff?
Is transferring my site to PSU the same as pointing my domain here? Does that mean that PSU would be hosting it or would I still need to keep Yahoo? (Completely lost here!!!)
Sorry if these are dumb questions or if they've already been answered somewhere.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Katz

The answer is yes to both. LOL I haven't seen the Yahoo store templates, but if you have pasted html into the templates, then you can copy/paste that into your store here.

Quote: › docWrite("quote")If it can be transferred, is it a difficult process?

Not overly difficult and there are several of us here, including the other store owners, that pitch in to help. You're never alone here.

Do I need to know technical stuff?

We provide the user manuals for both parts of the PSU stores; we can help with step-by-step instructions. IMHO, it helps when a seller wants to learn something new and makes an effort to learn how to do it. But the really technical stuff, nah.

Quote: › docWrite("quote")Is transferring my site to PSU the same as pointing my domain here?

Yes, it can be, if you already have a domain name.

Quote: › docWrite("quote") Does that mean that PSU would be hosting it or would I still need to keep Yahoo? (Completely lost here!!!)

Yes, PSU would be hosting everything for you. The site, the store, images and everything. For the price, it's a bargain.

Hope this helps

:D

I have not used the yahoo site builder so I don't know how difficut it is. But can you provide us a link to your yahoo site so I can see how much effort it will take to transfer it. Also can you export all your products (if you have any) from your yahoo site to a csv file so we can upload them to PSU.

Also feel free to try the admin demo

Thank you all for your replies. If it's possible for me to learn anything about the internet I'm sure I'll learn it here. I've been reading through post and stuff and this site is full of information!
I did look at the demo and it looks like I might be able to make sense of some of it. What I don't understand I'm sure I'll find the answer here! You seem to have a whole site full of good people!
Here's my site alleykatzantiques Hope I did that right!
Thank you all for your help

Hey, Katz!

I'm tickled to see you made it!

Thanks, everyone, for making Katz welcome and pitching in. I told her she could count on you to make a transition.

Don't let Katz fool you. She's very, very bright. I was shocked to see first of all, that she took a Yahoo store and second, what she'd managed to accomplish without any help at all.

Shocked, because she's never, ever built anything on the web!! And the backend of Yahoo isn't intuitive. It's actually overly complicated...so I was shocked and amazed!!

Since I don't have a PSU store, I can't be a lot of help here...but I know (because I've used some of the software) that it'll be a better environment for Katz, and there's no community that's going to be as helpful to her as PSU.

Thanks, everyone! You're in good hands now, Katz. I'm really, really excited to see what you do now!!

Katz:

First off, by find Lurkey - you were blessed! She's a 'gem' to know - esp. with the technical 'stuff'.

Second - welcome to PSU. Glad you came when Lurkey suggested - cuz you will find most folks here help each other all the time!

Third - PSU IMO - if the best forum for learning, asking, getting help, etc. If I didn't 'find' this when I did, I'd be dumber than I still am!

Fourth - I agree - your site looks awesome!!!

Fifth - Ms. AngelSolutions also is a marvelous resource who always gives her time when possible. So -- between Lurkey, AngelSolutions, PSU and the rest - I believe you're in the 'best hands' ever!!

I wish you great success as you venture down the path of your own website!!! :D :D

It shouldn't be hard at all to convert this site to a PSU store. You already have one of the hardest steps done which is content. All you have to do is just cut and paste the content over. As for the design. The default PSU store template is laid out similar to your site with the menus on the top and left with content in the middle. All you would have to do is add your logo, add your backgroud image, and change some colors to match.

Thank you all for your help. I appreciate the compliments also. Rhonda did help alot. She's an angel!

Couple more questions. What do I do about my domain name? Can I just transfer it here? Do my email accounts follow the domain name?
Would the basic store plan be good for a new store or would you recommend getting the power plan?

Erin, it's good to see you here also. I haven't been around GC in a while. Hopefully I'll get back there soon.

Thank you all

I've not been there either - it's kind of ghostly. Mark did share with the community that he was off to another huge project but would be back! I check in once in a bit, but well - ya know - real life gets in the way!!!

Great to be 'seen' and always a pleasure to 'see' ya!!

For your domain name all you have to do is change the DNS on it to point to ours. As long as you setup the email accounts on the new server with the same name they will follow the domain name.

If your site doesn't need a database and is all html the basic hosting will work. If you need a database for your store you will need the Power hosting plan. Or you can go with the PSU Store which already has the store software included using a database.

Good Morning,

Need some help again!

I purchased my PSU store account (pre-installed software)and have a couple questions.
1. I entered all my info and Credit Card and I got an email from PSU that I need to pay for the invoice. I followed the instructions went to billing and found the invoice but there's no place to click to pay it. Don't know if I'm suppose to pay or if maybe it's just waiting for an approval. I entered the CC info so I thought it would just charge it but not sure.

2. I went to Yahoo and got in the advance DNS and change the name server to the following:Primary Name Server: NS1.THEFOO.NET
Secondary Name Server: NS2.THEFOO.NET
Is that right?

3. I have 3 other domains (spelling variations) that I had forwarded to my main domain alleyktzantiques.com now that I've changed the name server will these domains still forward to my main one or do I need to go in and change the name server for each one?

4. When these domains come up for renewal do I renew them through Yahoo or through PSU?

5. Where do I go to start building my store on PSU?

6. I purchased the pre-installed software package, Do I need to use ZenCart or one of the other softwares also or is that just a option I have? I mean everything I need is in the PSU software correct? I don't have to use Zencart if I don't want to right?

Thank you all.

That invoice is just for your records if you paid with credit card it will automaticly be taken out each month.

That is correct and I just checked on your domain and it is already pointing to your new site. :D

If you forwared it to the domain name you shouldn't have to change anything.

4. When these domains come up for renewal do I renew them through Yahoo or through PSU?

You will renew your domain with yahoo still

5. Where do I go to start building my store on PSU?

You should have received a welcome email. Send me a pm if you didn't. But the page would be http://www.yourdomain.com/administrator

You don't have to purchase or install any other software. Everything is already setup.
