Just look at their stock today and the listing counts that went up.

And of course they did this too to counter all efforts of boycotts/strikes.

And think of all the poor sellers who fell for that 10 cent listing two
day "event". And then they try to re-list again and maybe again
so this big income revenue eBay got for themselves and the stock
holders will be great but off the backs of the sellers and through
the destruction of small businesses who fell for the Bait and Switch
etc. techniques and the hiding of items. So many things ......

And how many of those that sold on these 10 cent listing days know
that the money the "get back" is for credits and not real money back.

And why again is eBay so anxious to get money so very fast? Why
put many many small businesses out of business without giving them
not more than a month's notice. Even in May when it appears they
knew what they were going to do that still would not have been
enough time for small businesses to prepare fully but sure would
have helped.

To me it is not just the fee increase it is ALL the things they did
before that and continue to do that is a BIG problem.

What does this say about all the eBay stock holders who believe that
the fees should have been raised much higher than they will be
come Aug 22nd. And all the unscrupulous ones who are making
money from a company who is filling them with riches but to do
that they are hosing small business big time. They are making
"blood" money off small business sellers.

Well, I'm sure that many of the small business owners on eBay who are getting "screwed" here are investors themselves. And if anyone is aware that a stock is going to increase significantly, even if it is from a company raising their prices, then I have to wonder why they did NOT invest, not why they did.

What eBay is doing is not a crime. It is very unfortunate for small business owners who run their businesses through eBay, but they probably wouldn't have a business if it wasn't for eBay, or it wouldn't be nearly as successful. So, if a business owner sells on eBay and at a B&M store, they lost the all the commerce that eBay allowed them access too. If they relied solely on eBay, then as they say "live by the sword, die by the sword". There's no such thing as a free lunch.

Ofcourse, it's natural for sellers to be upset over the increase. It's a shock to their business plan and could be crippling. But eBay isn't a corporation of murderers... they're just your average corporation (self-serving).

Roundabout926,

I can appreciate your opinion on this but to
me it comes down to business ethics and
what kind of a company ones chooses to
invest in. And the conscious of those who
know some things and do it to take advantage
of a situation. Don't know if you have ever
read the Yahoo finance boards but some would
love to gouge the sellers much more so they
can fatten their pockets.

Maybe just me but I find that offensive taking
money off of small businesses who were
encouraged to pack them stores and then
pull the rug from under them without much
notice with maybe thousands of dollars worth
of inventory.

I would rather invest in many other companies
out there where one does not question their business
ethics.

I disagree eBay is no where close to an average
company. There are not too many when I think
of them I think of very unethical. Legal will see
if the fed or any law enforcement ever steps in.

Stockholders Happy ?
The CEO's sitting on giant options perhaps ,and not for long!

eBay is close to 52 week low's :!:
Thats why the fee hike , and they can't do that forever

Can squeeze the eBay sellers until our eye's pop out but that stock is done as a growth stock.

Now its a value stock , and sure doing boneheaded moves like buying Skype and losing the auction wars in Asia is no longer fun and games.

The stock will pop on fee hikes ,likely slide back when earnings are less then speculators dream about.

Invest in eBay? Forget moral grounds , this is not the market for tech and as sellers we know all very well that

A. Skype will not pay off
B. Ebay is losing in Asia (thinking eBay will rule Asia is ONLY reason to invest in eBay)
C. Serious issues with auction format ,sell through rates and customer and brand relations and Paypal
D. We all KNOW eBay will lose market share sooner or later

incompetence is eBay's crime....its insult to injury they are harming sellers and losing on the stock front

(I don't own eBay stock or trade in it ,no I'm not trying to short it hehe)

If you consider what eBay is doing to be unethical, then I'd say about 95% of companies to invest in would be in the same boat.

I'm not just talking oil companies, but I don't think ANY publicly traded company would see an opportunity to raise prices and profits and pass it by... it might even be illegal to ignore something such as that which would be in the best interest of stock-holders.

Roundabout926,

Again I do respect your opinion but I am
saying that it is an individual choice to invest
in a company where one believes to it to
be unethical. I personally question their
ethics a lot. I suspect others do too.

There are ways to do things correctly and
still make a lot of money and then there are
ways to gouge people when they had other
choices.

I am not disagreeing with them needing to
keep making money but the method they
chose to do this.

It is not just the outrageous fee increase it is
that in conjunction with the WAY they did this.

Why was it necessary to destroy many small
businesses with so little time for them to adjust
properly? I do not call that ethical.

And again, there are so many companies I
do not think unethical so I would want to
invest my money with them.

You want to see unethical, read the "oh this poor seller" thread here at PSU.

It relates to that sale with all the strings attached that many sellers don't know about. If you thing there is outrage now, wait til these sellers get their bills and find out that their listings didn't "qualify" for the refund.

Man oh man, I think there will be a flood of newbies to the alternative side.

knappschiles,

Totally agree with you. I also was just thinking
that the boards over there and here will be
filled with many sellers who felt like they
were scammed.

Think maybe a new wave of sellers wanting
out as soon as the "light comes on"

Exactly.

I sure hope the boards and alt sites gear up for another influx of the disgruntled. Looks like there may be a bunch.

Just wishful thinking but wouldn't it be
great if many of the ebay employees
those who are not tainted just up and
walked out? Those that just can no
longer take working for a company
with low values.

and a person over on the Stores board used
to if they still don't have this for a signature
line. From a great country song.

"You've got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything,

You've got to be your own man not a puppet on a string,

Never compromise what's right and uphold your family name,

You've got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything"
