The firm's been hit with negative news this week in connection with government investigations into its issuance of stock-option grants.
It received a grand jury subpoena requesting documents about option grants, and it disclosed it's the subject of an informal inquiry from the Securities and Exchange Commission.
On Thursday, VeriSign said it has received notice from the Nasdaq that it's facing delisting for failure to file its latest quarterly regulatory filing on time.
The rare Internet stock trading higher early Friday was wedding portal TheKnot Inc., which gained 3.7% to $17 a share.
Earlier in the day, analysts at Merriman Curhan Ford & Co. raised their rating of the stock to buy following a positive review of TheKnot's merger with wedding portal WeddingChannel com.
Analyst Richard Fetyko expects the merger of the two will result in an overall 20%-to-30% reduction in operating costs, among other upsides.
