Hi~I'm thecrystalrose (no caps) on Bonanzle, Ecrater and Blujay. lbrhiannon on Etsy, and Goldust on Ning from years ago. I don't even remember my greedbay store name...I gave them another shot for about a month last month and was slapped & suspended AGAIN for taking a "reps" advice. This time "for life". Nothing new there. They also "suggested" I stop selling the same items on other sites. They HATE me, lol.

| I use the same name on 6-8 sites as well. I agree that you are also selling yourself, not just an item. |

I use the same name with every place I am signed up with including Every Place I sell, market places, blog, website, and social networks too. The name can follow me, but I am also branding the name too. Easier for people to find me, and search for me as my name shows up in a lot of places. The name I have used since 2005 when I started selling online is LilacsNDreams.
Once you have chosen a name, I don't think a lot of places would let you change your name. Most of them tell you that you would have to close the account, and open a new one with your new name if that is what you wanted.
Happy Holidays & Happy Sales to everyone!:) |

In the past I used the same name EVERYWHERE. Forum name knappschiles and business name Knapp's Fresh Vegies. Like Lilacs it was a "branding" thing.
But about 2 years ago I started switching things around. There are a couple of reasons.
#1 - Google.
While this wasn't even a policy when I started my change, now Google won't let you submit the same items from multiple sites. So far the fact that I have different IDs and 2 Google Checkout accounts and my listings are slightly different at various sites, I'm still getting listed at several sites.
#2 - interference.
The last few years the crazies have gotten out of hand and if you are known by the same name everywhere, it's easy for them to interfere with your accounts anywhere you are. It's too bad we have to worry about stuff like that but it's a fact of life on the internet these days. There are some horror stories here on PSU about interference.
#3 - fresh start
For me, my focus had changed a bit over the years and the "chiles" part wasn't really aplicable. Hence "Carol's Tomatoes".
For others seperate names could be a way to check how various marketing methods work or not.
It does get a bit confusing at times tho. I have had a couple people order something from me off more than 1 site at about the same time not realizing it's the same seller.
Just some things to think about in the ever changing world of internet selling.

Knapps...yes, it is unfortunate that google does not allow you to list the same items at various sites. But, that is also to make it a better shopping search experience for those shopping too. Prospective customers can easily get irritated by seeing the same listing over and over when they wish to search further, and would like to see various possibilities, and be able to compare. Kind of like shopping in a store, it's nice to see more than just one on the shelf. I have experienced this myself, and with the respect of trying to be in the customers shoes, and appealing to them, I try to respect this. It's hard yes, always working for that google placement, but things all work out too.
I try very hard not to have the same things listed on different marketplaces I am with. Each market place I am with does have different items listed with each one. The only acception at this time is there are duplicates on 1 of them as I work on moving inventory out of it, but while doing so I have also supressed the google feed for it so it does not get sent to google searches.
Security? I KNOW!! It just keeps getting worse, and worse. And the horror stories....So sad as we all are trying so hard to do a little extra for ourselves, our homes, family, etc. Wish there was a way to dampen their parades as the wonderful scammers of the internet world roam for victims all the time.
I have taken a leap, and started another name with my artfire shops as I like you, and others, over time things changed, and my interests & views have broaden more. Don't take me wrong, I still love working with vintage, collectibles, pottery, glassware, kitchenware. But, I feel like I am going back into my childhood again with crafts, handmade, scrapbooking, upcycling, reconstructing of things as I did then. Only, this time it is for selling. I am very much enjoying the time of working with it, keeps me busy & occupied, and when I need a break from then I go shopping for supplies of my vintage to sell.
Thanks so much for adding to this discussion Knapps...it gives all of us plenty of things to think of & consider. Have a super weekend everyone, and Happy Sales! |

| Carol, Google will allow duplicate listings from several sites, under the site name... Stockmiser found this out and had posted it. He and I both thought that duplicate listing across sites were illegal. But I share several members with other sites and those listings appear in GS under the site's name. |
