Hi and welcome to PSU!
oscommerce is a very good product, even if there's a hefty learning curve. You install the contributions from within the admin backend of oscommerce. You'll find a helpful forum at their main web site.
http://www.oscommerce.com/
You'll find them under community. Read all the documentation you can. It's a great program.
Good luck!

Also, please make sure you know what version of OScommerce that you are running. The contributions will have information on which versions it will work with. Using a contribution that doesn't work with your version can make you have to start all over again! :x
Usually you download the contributions from their website in a Zip file, extract them onto your computer, read the instructions for installation, and follow them. |

| http://oscommerce.com, go to contributions. Use search box, enter password protect(or something of that nature). There is a mod you can install to PW protect your admin area |

1. No you can't. You can install a local copy of you store. To do that you will need to install Apache, php, and mysql on your computer. There is a program called xmapp that will install all of it for you. The hard part making sure all the data on the server and your local computer is synced up.
2.What web host are you using? Do they use cpanel? If they do there is a "Password Protect Directories" option |
