Hey Gang.

I'm going to be using the Virtuemart csv import to import my data to my webspace. I couldn't find the specs for what the fields should be in the csv file, could someone post a link or some information?

Cheers,
Justin

Aren't you able to do a test export from the demo store? Have you tried the demo store?

http://www.powersellersunite.com/psustore_admin_demo.php

Why are you trying to prepare an upload when you haven't even signed up for a store?? Kinda putting the cart before the horse aren't we?

Attached are the default field headings for the csv file. You can adjust the order and remove extra headings.

The only ones required are
product_sku
product_name
category_path

so if i get this right i can make a file on my open office calc page (saves in excel or cvs formats and is FREE)

Maybe grabbing my items from turbo lister once they are made into a csv file.

alter them to these specs........

product sku (have to make my own there)

Product_name (do these have to be all one word to work or can they read like reg listings? example = rain fresh fragrance oil)

Category_path (this is what i am not sure of. I have made some categories and will be making more. is there something to look at there that i am missing that says which path the category is?)

Then after this do i put in price, amount or anything else? Is there an example to look at somewhere that i may download or open in calc to view? Angel had told me about one on hibidder that helped tremendously for me to understand and get the job done. And now that i understand that CSV is basically an EXCEL file i am doing much better since i have been using excel for quite some time for accounting purposes.

If you go t0 your current store you can do an export of the current products in your shop. That will output an example that you can use.

Hello Dannygyrl.

Please see the post above by PSUnite. There is an attachment with a sample csv file.

It seems that there are only 3 required fields, but many more optional ones that you will probably use (I know I will based on looking at that file).

Thanks PSunite for the posting, but I was looking for a page that laid out the meanings of of all the fields, and possible fields so that we could figure it out.

Thanks gang,
Justin

Thanks for the post, i just wanted to read through all the technical details before I signed up for anything.

We have alot of inventory here (approx 40,000 items), and just moved into a 75000 sq foot freestanding building, so i just want to make sure that I understand everything before I dive into anything.

COOLIOS! Yoinks!! I guess I would too! Reason I posted about the demo store is I would've tried to sneak a export out of the demo store and played with that csv file. ROFLMAO!

Best advice I can give ye...

Check out the VirtueMart manual and the demo store really really well.

I think you'd like the PSU store. It's a great deal and you get great service from da Boss! 8)

PSU will the demo store allow a test import of say, 100-1000 products for him to test drive it?

Thanks, I have been looking at the demo store, and it looks great. I have a part time programmer on the staff here, I just wanted to give him the csv specs so that he could get working on converting our ebay app into one that can convert to this PSU store csv format.

I don't know too much about csv files, or programming in general, I'd rather just give him the specs and get him to do it properly.

Thanks,
Justin
