EBay, or an equivalent trust system, could replace banks within 20 years, according to a Gartner analyst.
Stephen Prentice, vice president and distinguished analyst at Gartner, told vnunet.com that the existing financial services industry was unlikely to exist in 20 years' time.
"Ten or 15 years ago, people trusted banks. Nowadays banks in the UK realise that most of their customers don't actually trust them. They don't even like them. They only use them because they know there isn't really an alternative," he said.
"Banks are a classic case of [a business where] their whole livelihood, their ability to trade, is about being trusted. They used to be trusted, but they're not anymore. They're tolerated.
"If I wanted to look 20 years out, I would say there will not be a banking industry as we know it today. Most of the functions that they carry out will be handled by online or electronic brokerages."

ROTFLMAO!! Yeah, I'd be happy to trust my money to a company that is incapable of keeping their own members from being scammed. NOT. I'd put my money in my mattress first! A monopoly on the monetary system? Can you imagine the freakin' interest rates for a loan??
Yeah, Patty00, needles in our eyes while we're sitting in a puddle with our toe in a live socket! |

Yah, they can't keep their own billing dept straight, so I'm going to hope they will keep my investments right -- NO WAY !!!
Who ever wrote that sure doesn't REALLY know eBay.

You know, I read that too and started laughing...so much so it got both my parrots laughing too. ****wiping the tears away**** One just said "That's so silly". LOL...wish they could read and know what they're really laughing about.
Ebay...what a joke. The bad thing is we probably won't be dealing with real money anymore. That's just scary in a way...I don't like it when it gets to the point that we can be tracked anywhere, anytime using any cards. They can do it now but at least we still can use money...wait... there's those pesky cameras. Just wants to make a person be paranoid doesn't it?
Wonder how much real money will go on the auction sites by then?
Crap...the birds are making farting noises and then giggling...(sigh) |

Banks used to be trusted???? Since when??? how come my family kept their money buried in an old coffee can under the tree? Then forgot where they buried it.
Or in the mattress... only to have the house burn down. |
