Howdy all, I'm trying to generate business for my website and online store - http://odekirks.com
How do I get my homepage higher in the search results? a site with a similar name registered a day before mine is already at the top of the search. I'm trying everything and getting some results but not enough.

Before you go out spending a bunch of money on search engine marketing,
-have you submitted to all of the search engines yet?
-the amount of text on your site is minimal:
Search engines need text to index your web pages, to determine the theme of your web site and to produce a site summary. They cannot read what is written on your graphical images or in a Flash movie. Google recommends to create a useful, information-rich site. Fresh, continuously updated content is one of the best ways to ensure that search engines return to your web site (and your visitors, too). Your web page "http://odekirks.com/" contains only 57 words. It is strongly recommended to add more text to your web page.
-most of your keywords do not appear anywhere on your pages, also not good
-have you tried to get reciprocal links back to your website?
I do search engine optimization too (I'm not trying to sell my services here, you can do the basics for free).
