Since all the E hoopla, I have listed on other sites, and also made my own website, even lowered the prices on my website, and still people choose to shop on E thats the bottom line...I think???????

Not necessarily.
Last winter, I used E a bit to help promote my own web site. I took out my PP addy so buyers COULDN'T pay before I sent them my own personal invoice.
In that invoice I also made a couple of up-sell special offers that included no added S&H fees for that order. I got additional orders from about 35+% of my eBay sales. Some of those orders were much larger than the original order.

You would be surprised at the number of people that are not aware of the alternatives. Which is what most sites seem to forget. Go after these folks.....find them...advertise...promote unconventionally and they will find you.
It takes loads of time, effort and patience. Ebay has been around for a long time....it's gonna be hard to get some folks to break the habit of going to Ebay...but it can be done!! |

Ebay's been around for over 10 years while most of the alternatives have not, thus name recognition. Kind of like Ford and Kia
With billions to spend on worldwide marketing it's going to take these smaller alternative online auction sites years to gain any type of name recognition.
Do as I. When chatting with local friends, neighbors, family members and or sellers ask them if they've heard of XX online auction site. 95% of the time they're not going to know anything about that particular selling venue.
If they're like most of my family, neighbors and or freinds they'll ask me if I sell on ebay :? It's usually the only online auction site they've ever heard of
Name recognition takes years if not a decade to establish among the live buyer population IMHO. I see it most everyday when selling to the live public :( |
