This is a dumb question, I am sure, but how do you set up a My Space Site and does it really help to bring in business?

In the upper right hand corner, click on the "Sign Up" link.

I just posted this in another topic, but I will repeat it here.
"As for advertising on MySpace, I keep seeing people talking about advertising and posting there. That is a good way to get an additional backlink for your own website, but that is about it. The problem with MS is that the average age for a MS junkie is currently about 13-14 yrs. old. When I was 14, I didn't have a credit card, and market demographic research shows the same thing. Unless you're selling zit remover or teeth whitener or ringtones, don't expect too much business from MS referrals.
I read a recent article saying that MS sends more people to online stores now than MSN search does. But they also said that the actual amount of people buying from a MS click was a small fraction of what MSN search generates."

Posting on MySpace may help a low PageRank website get a higher ranking, but as far as real sales go, not likely. In other words, it won't hurt, but I don't know how much it will help, unless you are marketing to teenagers. If you are, that is the place to be.

dont listen to axsstech.. He/she obviously has not actually used MySpace.. It isnt just for 13-16 year olds.. And using it for one week netted me a few sales already and I havent really put a whole lot of energy into it.. You can see the ages of people before you let them be friends.. All friends can see your bulletins automatically as you post them so if you have a sale, coupon code, new item you can post one bulletin and they all receive it.. You can sign up for groups there and show off your items.. You can start your own groups.. You can place banners on groups home pages or even in the comments section of people who are your friends.. How can advertising to so many people be a BAD thing? Depending on what you sell you can go after certain groups or you dont have to.. You can also customize your page to look like your website and you can show off your products as well.. Dont listen to those who say its a waste of time.. They dont know what they are talking about...

Look, it's not a bad thing to be on MS(I have had a profile there since a month after it opened), I just wouldn't get your hopes up too high for revenue purposes, not yet. I didn't say it waste of time either, don't put your words in my mouth lhhgbh) and check your sig too, it's broken).

Comscore(who announced the older age stats for MS recently) scores data just like Nielsen scores TV ratings (you consent to having their software on your PC, like Nielsen gives you a TV box).
So much of their data is based on the age of the owner of the PC running their software, not the actual age of the user at any given time.
Read this blog post that has been making the rounds, and has been echoed by others in the marketing industry:

Age demographics from sites dont mean squat and the folks I have drawn have resulted in sales.. 7 days, 7 sales.. I have only joined a few groups and only posted to about 3 of them.. I have asked about 10 of them to place a banner on their groups page of which 3 of them have agreed and the others have not gotten back to me yet.. I have asked about 800 people to be friends of which 400 of them have joined up.. I would say that 80% of them are not teenagers, but college students.. College students buy things online. They are paying customers.. Actually the teenagers that are under 16, 90% of them you cant even ask to be their friend because they have blocks on where you have to know some info about them in order to ask them.. To say that MS isnt a potential buyers site is ridiculous. To say that the 13-16 year olds are about all that makes up MS is ridiculous.. I'm sorry but 400 friends on MS are 400 potential customers and you can update them at any time with bulletins about new products, sales, etc.. Whats not to win from this and its only a little bit of time to do this.. Perhaps it was a teenager place in the past and wasnt to be taken seriously by advertisers and whatnot, but its fast growing and morphing into something for alot of twentysomethings too.. if you dont believe me look up the profile for Toucher and Rich.. Those arent teenagers and its proof that there are plenty of people out there. They have 3,700 friends.. As I said before, thats 3,700 possible sales and from where I'm standing thats more exposure than your listings will get on Bidville, OLA, and Yahoo combined.. I have sold on Yahoo, BV, and IOffer and I didnt sell 7 the first week on any of those..

Im not attacking anyone, but if your going to go off of goofy demographics, nielsens, etc and not actually go out there and give it a real try then dont come in here saying it doesnt work and that teenagers are all thats out there because it just isnt true... If thats your opinion then believe it till the end, but do allow some to come in here and try for themselves.. If you do it right,it will work.. Think about it for a second.. With over 115 million people on it if only .5% of the people made up those who actually arent teenagers thats still 500,000 potential customers who you can advertise easily to without spamming and its free.. This gives you some kind of alternative to Google Adwords and could possibly drive some customers to you and that would help aleviate some costs.. Honestly I wouldnt have done this a few years ago, but there are so many older people there now its not even funny.. Many employees at companies are starting to do it as well to keep in touch with their coworkers.. Its not just for pimply kids who are crushing.. The stock is going up.. I wont beat a dead horse, but do try to be open minded that its age demographic is not all teenagers...

Actually here in Southern California there seems to be just as many if not more adults that use myspace than kids. I am a 41 year old male and most people I know use myspace for one thing or another. I do have to say that as far as I know I have never sold anything because of myspace but who knows because I never ask how my customers found me.
