LA CROSSE - A $2.33 quartz stone led to a court case in California.

The buyer posted false feedback about the seller on eBay, the nation’s most popular online shopping site. He wrote “beware of this seller” and “not as advertised.”

If you’ve used eBay, you know that feedback can make or break a sale. Buyers and sellers write feedback comments about each deal, which other buyers and sellers use to judge trustworthiness.

“It’s very difficult to get (feedback) removed, and that’s something people need to be aware of,” said Brian Weber, attorney and partner at Johns, Flaherty & Collins in La Crosse.

But eBay expert Jack Socha of Spring Grove, Minn., says not to sweat negative feedback.

“For the average person, selling average stuff, (false feedback) isn’t a big consideration,” said Socha, who teaches a class on eBay at Western Technical College.

In the quartz case, the seller asked eBay to remove the comments, but eBay does not remove feedback unless a court orders them to remove it, Weber said. The seller sued the buyer, who then admitted he lied. eBay still refused to remove the feedback even after the buyer confessed, so the two obtained a court order to have the comments removed.

“If someone decides they want to be a jerk and cause (you) problems, there’s not a lot you can do to protect yourself against that,”

How very true, that’s why I have never thought comments on feedback should be allowed, on any auction or payment site.

A very simple rating from 0-9 is all that’s needed…that stops all the childish and mentally disturbed individuals leaving anything in print; as they are basically trying to get even with the World for their inadequacy.

As for ebay not removing feedback that is completely an ebay cop-out (pathetic reasoning as is the “please try the mutual feedback facility”………oh yes the psychotic fool who want to destroy my ebay trade is going to agree!!!! I do know some will but many won't)

How many times have you read, sorry I left Negative, I selected the wrong choice…or
Looking forward to the item do you have it in black (not even relevant?)
Or…Fraud seller who never shipped (yes you guessed right from a NPB)

I guarantee you all have your own feedback classic comment……what was it ?

I had a neutral posted on a book that was sent.
The buyer said it was broken into little pieces and could not be glued.
Even with the ebay item number # They (ebay) would do nothing to remove the post.
I fretted for a while. I am so glad to see someone who took the matter to the courts.
Thank you verrrrry much for your post.

happy days on your daily path............

This is a great idea - 'cept I'd make it a 0-5 rating, so people don't have to figure out the metamessage behind a feedback rating of a 3 or 7 rating level, LOL!!! Better yet, cut it back to a 0-2 rating spread. ;) Make it really easy for everyone.

Not a classic comment - a classic situation. Some befuddled old lady left me negative feedback when she was actually having a problem with a DIFFERENT seller. When she finally figured out she'd messed up, she was evidentally too dingy to amend her comments.

Worst are the NPB who negs 8 weeks latter, and just trying to get this point through a thick feebay skull is impossible, I have moved most of my listings to eBid and looking at comments on their forum admin have a much more hands on approach to sorting these problems.

Ebay needs to institute a system like Amazon's where you can go back and change feedback for a period of time. (don't remember but its probably 30 days). That gives ample time for a lot of sellers to solve the problem...whatever it might be. It give a chance for buyer and seller to talk. Seems Ebay did this as they do everything...thinking only of themselves. Leave a feedback and you die with it!

ebay sux, no doubt.....i'm pulling my 2 stores with 10k items.....probably going to ewaey.com...they have a totally new concept.

But i will inform this post.....ebay will remove feedback, all it takes is a willing buyer & seller.....used to cost 20 bux, but they prolly got sued for that.....whadda scam that was.

they should be sued for "bait & switch".....which is what they did to us store owners.

if your an ebayer......Leave now, join another site......everybody knows how greedy they are......why let this continue, they need a lesson.

ewaey.com will be ready in a couple days.....i'm betting they are going to the next big thing, but it won't work without lots of sellers making the move......this is ground floor people.....i'm tryin' it out.

they have a couple promo videos.....email me and i'll send ya the link.....i'm a newbie here, not sure if i can post it?

Welcome to PSU!! Glad you're here. Best of efforts no matter where you list and best of sales to you too!

Many here might not support the ewaey site - there's just a bit of history 'here' at PSU that will affect the future there.

Where you'll find unity 'here' is in the thought process of diversification! We've all, for the most part, spread our items and sales across multi-venues to testdrive and see what works well.

Do your research and make choices that are best for your business and your items! Happy sales to you!! :D :D
