Ok I must start by telling you I still haven't figured out my VCR and they are now out of fashion. Here goes!
Was a PS at feebay, closed my store (enough is enough) and since have run helter skelter everywhere I could find to list. Have gone from selling 7 or 8 items a day to less than a dozen, at all sites in 2 months. Shattering!

I did buy a domain name from yahoo. Is that good enough or do you buy your domain name from more than one place? Have stores at several sites, HB, Ecrater, Blujay,Ebid, WP (last 2 I'm leaving, no sales at all) and wonder if the problem is that I need my own website? Do I understand correctly that altho I have bought my domain name thru yahoo, if I buy it again (can you buy the same name twice?) thru the ??daddy site, I will get a Free Website?

I know you are all wondering how on earth I've survived so long (3 yrs) selling online but I am good at making listings, LOL. All this other stuff is just sooo confusing to me. I enter all my url's in the searches. Some I can find, some I can't. Seems ecrater turns up often, blujay I never can find in google, hibidder very seldom can find in google or froogle?

I can't even find a place here to list my other url's. I do have hibidder listed but that's it. Or can you only list one site?. Still haven't found where to list individual listings at this site (or can you?) OR should I be opening a store here also? Wow am I confused. Be nice! Please!

First let me welcome you to PSU.

Now on the domain name, you can only purchase it one time. You just point it at the servers for who ever you choose to host your site. I personally recommend PSU Stores. You get more bang for the buck, plus great customer service and plenty of help from other members.

Now Individual listing on this site. I am assuming you are talking about product listings. You can Not do that here, it is just a forum for sellers to get together and share strategies and marketing ideas.

You put your other url's for your other sited in the signature where you placed the HiBidder banner. There is a character limit but I am unsure what they have it set at.

I will take a crack at some of this for you.

Your Domain Name ------ when you buy and register a domain name, it is for the entire internet, not just for Yahoo where you bought it. After you purchase the domain name, for 1 year, 2 years, what ever you paid for, you domain name (frontporchdreaming.com or whatever name you bought) and then within 24 hours or so that name is sent to all the Domain Name Servers (DNS) worldwide so everyone in the world can access your site. Purchasing a domain name does not really get you anything unless you have that name pointed to a web site. You can not purchase the name again from GoDaddy (or any other seller/registerer of domain names) because that name is already taken .... you have it. I used to have one I purchased from GoDaddy and when you buy it from them, they will give you a single page for parking your name .... in essence, when someone enters your domain name in their browser, it will take them to this page. You can then modify that page so it has links to all your different stores/auctions that you have on the different site. For a few $$$ GoDaddy will let you host a web site on their servers and you can have XXX number of pages based on the package you purchase and then you can build your own site, your own store and the only cost if the monthy fee to GoDaddy for hosting your site. No listing fees, no FVFs, there will be PayPal fees if you decide to accept PP on your own site. You can also build a web site on some other companies servers and then change your domain name to point to that site. Just because you purchase your domain name from Yahoo, GoDaddy or the ABC company does not mean you have to host a site with them. Naturally, they want you too since it will be more bucks for them, but you can set up a site with any host.

If you don't want to create your own site with a store and all, I would think that Yahoo gives you at least 1 page you can create on their servers since you purchased the name from them. You could use this page as kind of a sign post for all you stores on the different sites. When someone types in www.frontporchdreaming.com (or whatever your domain name is) it would take them to a page you create that looks real purty (intended to spell it that way :lol: ) and you can list your many virtues and types of wares and then have links that will take the viewer to your itmes on the different sites. The next big question/problem is ---- How do you drive traffic to your page so buyers will find you??

Starting your own web is not easy and not a panacea to all problems. It's alot of work and it may not be cheap. It also is not something that you create and then just sit back and reap the benefits of your hard work. It is a continuous task of updating, upgrading, changing.

Thanks Paul and Bigfoot. Clears up a lot for me. I did sort of think that once I bought my domain name, it was "taken" and no one, even me, could buy it again. Guess it's the getting a website to list my sites that had me all mixed up. Sad thing is I bought a domain name from yahoo for $2 and made this long name even I couldn't remember (my son said I should tack on things I sell??). So I had to go back and buy another domain just plain frontporchdreaming.com which then cost me $10. (plus the privacy charge both times, ugh). Now yahoo wants I think like $28. to buy a web site? Sounds like a lot? I will check godaddy (or whatever his name is). All I really want to do is try to make it easier for my very long list of feebay happy buyers to find me. I will check out the PSU info also.

Am I understanding correctly that all I do is go to that page where I have Hibidder banner listed and type in my url for my other store sites (like ecrater & blujay)? Thanks again!

Ok, after reading your post I have a suggestion.
Often we can't see the forest for the trees.
But when I walk on a pinecone in my bear feet I come to life and see the forest!!
That is your problem, look for that pinecone!!
Step on it. Wonderful things will happen!
My suggestions is open your PSU Store and list your items.
Then list items on all the other sites and when you make a sale send directions in an emil to your PSU Store. If you build your store, they will come.
Now I will tell you it is not easy to build a store on PSU...as I have been told by many PSU members and me toooooo. But they say they are glad they took the walk when their store is up and running..
I am working on my store. Never could settle on a site. Too many problems or this/that/other. So now I study and work on setting up a store. And I am happy to work on my store and to know someday I will have the listings and the sales at my PSU Store.
There is help with getting your store set up. Me I am just now learning what to ask.........

The only dumb question is the one you do not ask!!
