Question for you all

What is most attractive for new sellers to a new auction site?

a) Credit- for example, "$100 free credit towards ad enhancements"
(ie Bolded, Thumbnailed, Featured and extended ad listings)

b) Free Listings

c) Security/Fraud Protection - if so, what is it that ensures you
are protected to conduct sales on that site.

d) Personal assistance - (asking question/posing concens) regarding
your account with an employee of that site

e) Other

how about screening of all ads when placed.
on ebay you have to bring a sale/ad to their attention.
we on 52marketplace are screening al ads when they are placed
we had someone who placed an ad for photo's.
normal photo's signed by artist are nice to collect. this gentleman had a description with the ad that made us believe it was not legal.
we have removed the ad within a few minutes and contacted the FBI.

I'm glad to hear that 52 does that as well. We are at much more of an advantage (b/c of our size) than say, eBay, yet in all its glory, shouldn't eBay devote more of its earnings to its fraud protection division?

We have encountered fraudster's in the same way you have, 52mp- they all have some sort of red flag that easily distinguishes them from your typical user. Escrow insures that the seller won't be had by a fraudster, but new sites like 52MP and CB can't afford to have buyers' experiences tainted by bogus questions, offers, etc. from scammers- which is one key reason as to why we spend so much time trying to weed these individuals out.

 Scam of the day- HILARIOUS:
Yesterday, we had a would-be scammer call our office using TDD/TTY (that's Telecommunications Device for the Deaf/mechanical teleprinters), in which the caller would type his message to an operator who would then read the dialogue to us over the phone. Our sales director reiterated to me what was said; something to the effect of, "Do take Western Union?", "You ship out of U.S.?" ....all the while the female operator is waiting for the caller AKA scammer to type his next question for us.
Relentless aren't they

[B]I think that the best option is, hands down, fraud protection. It's DISGUSTING how many people post frauds frivalously on eBay, while eBay turns a blind eye. "Wholesale/dropshipper lists" and all sorts of scams come out in mass numbers, especially for pop. searches like Ipod. It totally dashes the credibility of the company. I think that you guys are dead on for screening all the new items, but as you grow, think of more practical methods of spotting frauds. I saw a forum headline about "wouldn't it be nice if we all used one site" or something along those lines (I'll be checkin' it out next cuz I'm so in love with this site I gotta post EVERYWHERE  ). Anyways, for this to come true we gotta think about how to manage growth, and brainstorm ways of watching for scams. The small sites are beautiful for customer service (my family business is a local hardware store surviving in a small town with Canadian tire literally across the street and Home Depot down the road), so maybe growing isn't the best thing, but if you do think of ways to watch for scams, that's by far what buyers and sellers want, protection and a eutopian trade center (always strive for the best). Another thing about fraud protection, if you reccommend a site, make sure you monitor it well and see it's the real deal. I doubt eBay does that given the feedback some of it's "Selling Solutions" get.

I can't think to add anything here - but ...IMHO - if I had to prioritize, I'd say Buyers would be number 1 for me! Obviously anti-fraud measures and great security should be a no-brainer!!!

Great list Elgato - AWEsOMElY Constructed!!!
