Maybe this isn't new to everyone else, but I've never had this happen before:

Bought some batteries, rechargeable, from a very reputable looking seller on a non-Ebay site. Paid immediately for them with my paypal debit card, NOT paypal direct.

Got the batteries, which were supposed to be NIB and factory sealed, these things were rollling all around loose in the UPS box, no padding whatsoever. No factory seal, the top had been cut off and was missing from the box. Tried these puppies out in my camera, thinking I'd keep them anyway if they worked. They died in less than 2 minutes. All of them.

Contacted the seller and told him I wanted them either replaced or refunded. I filed a paypal dispute just to keep my options opened. Seller said he'd check with his dropshipper, which he did, and he apologized, said send these batteries back. Sent them parcel post to OH with DC on the box, also to cover my a**

Buyer got the delivery attempt notice, and since I was right on the cutoff date of escalating the claim, I went ahead and escalated to a full PP complaint. I explained the situation to the seller, who seemed to be very cooperative, just didn't want to lose the ability to contest the transaction.

Seller told me, no problem, he picked up the batteries at the PO and said he would refund the entire amount I paid, plus the cost of shipping them back to him. I actually left him glowing feedback for resolving things and being so professional!

Here's the catch: 1.5 minutes after I escalated the claim, Paypal denied the SNAD and closed the case. Said buyer protection for a SNAD is ONLY offered on ebay items, or if you use a Paypal credit card. I used the debit card, guess that does not count!

To add insult to injury, the seller sent 2 payments: one for the shipping costs I incurred, which immediately deposited to my account, the 2nd he hit the refund button.

And now Paypal says they have to "hold the funds in reserve for 7-30 days until they complete their investigation"! I was like say WHAT? The investigation IS complete!

I'll never use the PP debit card to make any purchases again (since I don't shop on Ebay!)

I'm sorry to hear about PayPal treating you this way, EleganzaJewels. I hope when all is said and done they will restore your funds into your account without any hold on them. I recently purchased some DVDs from an on-line webstore with my PayPal debit card. After hearing of your experience I'm glad that the DVDs were exactly as they were described!
