I have seen some of you speaking highly of moneybookers.com so I decided to check them out. While studying their site I got sort of confused... maybe someone can help me out here.

Can anyone explain moneybookers.com? The buyer pays the fees for email payments, but the seller pays the fees for merchant payments? Merchant = credit cards and email = fund transfer, or what? I am sort of confused by the wording, I guess. And the buyer fees are 1% right? Does anyone know if it is "legal" on ebay to say you will offer a 1% discount to any buyer who pays with moneybookers? Does ebay allow moneybookers?

Moneybookers.com also says "The customers will need to instruct the transfer themselves on the Moneybookers system and you will need to process the transaction manually – funds will appear in real-time on your Moneybookers account and for each transfer received you will instantly receive a confirmation email." So how do you process the transaction manually?

Thanks

I am not sure if I got your questions correctly. Maybe it is best to number them or put them on bullet-points.

1. Yes the buyer or sender of payment gets charged 1%. The recipient does not get charged at all unless you have a full-blown merchant account with check-out features which is actually not required.

2. I think the "manual" portion is that "funds" should be "uploaded" to your moneybookers account prior to be able to send it. Unlike Paypal which just charges your card automatically when you pay for something. With moneybookers, there should be funds available prior to sending the email payment.

Uploading funds may be done via your "verified" credit card/debit card or "verified" bank account. Please check this... http://www.moneybookers.com/app/help.pl?s=fees

European customers will have the added benefit of being able to upload funds (in most instances) for FREE via their verified bank.

3. Ebay allows moneybookers but you cannot state that you will give discounts to those that will use moneybookers or something to that effect.

addtional: moneybookers is very strict in the 1 person-1 account only policy. To open a moneybookers account, you will need to undergo a strict verification process (sending id's, billing address, verify bank account etc etc) which is part of their "get to know your customer well" policy. This in effect minimizes any would-be fraudster. This verification process can take a week or sometimes even longer...it all depends on your speed of compliance.

Hope this helps you out.

Okay, I have a few more questions for anyone who knows:

If you accept credit cards or checkout (on your website) through moneybookers does that mean you have to have a merchant account with them? Isn't a merchant account being charged 8% for credit cards and 2% on standard payments? What is the difference between credit card and standard payment? 2% ain't bad at all, but 8% seems very steep (even with the chargeback protection included).

Thnx

Hi again.

I believe you may find your answer here http://www.moneybookers.com/app/help.pl?s=m_fees

And the merchant FAQ here http://www.moneybookers.com/app/help.pl?s=m_info

If you plan to allow credit cards "Merchant or Check-out style"...

your best choice should be Google Checkout hands down especially now that they are FREE for merchants.

Happy New Year!

Hey Diesel... thanks for your help... maybe you can help me out one more time?

Okay, I just received my first payment with moneybookers. It is for $275 USD so I want to make sure I am doing it right before I ship the product.

Moneybookers says this transaction's status is "processed." Does that mean I am paid and it is final/complete? I didn't sign up as a merchant, so to my knowledge I can not accept credit cards, correct? So this must have been a funds transfer? I am mostly concerned with the possibility of a charge back. With a regular account (non merchant) aren't your transactions just considered money/funds transfers and safe from charge backs?

Thanks!

Hi. If you open your moneybookers account and see the account balance in the top left side and the 275 is there, then it is inside your account already and you may transfer it to your verified bank account.

And yes, there are no charge-backs unlike Paypal. Once you get paid via moneybookers, you stay paid.

With Paypal, once you get paid, you are not paid and the buyer can either do a snad or item not received which is ridiculous. Even if you see an amount inside your Paypal account, you do not have the "peace of mind" that the amount will remain inside your account.

With moneybookers, the amount you see in your account, stays safely inside your account.

Moneybookers is the safest payment system for international sellers and buyers alike.

Happy New Year

I concur Moneybookers is a great system Envirobay ,although the site wording can be a bit confusing at times and the Faq doesn't have everything and you have to hunt and peck through the site a bit.

I assume Googlecheckout will be great but until it goes international Moneybookers is my first choice for international payment.

If you don't mind me asking how did you generate your sale via Moneybookers?

-Did you convert a buyer to Moneybookers?
- at european venue like tazbar auctions ?

I would like more Moneybookers clients as they are currently a minority and wondered if selling via Tazbar or attempting to convert some buyers.

OK, I know this is an older post but wanted to say thanks to all for the detailed info on moneybookers.

I just noticed in the statcounter 'recent keywords' someone came to my site from using the search term "march birthstone moneybookers". They came to my March birthstone jewelry page (go figger lol!) by actively looking for sellers using moneybookers!

Sadly, all they found was a reference that I am 'looking into' implementing moneybookers on the site. GRRRR. Time to get off the mark and get it implemented!!!

I also got a couple of searches looking for "Moneybookers" as well as "Certapay"

I'm not too shocked

Moneybookers has grown a considerable amount over the year , also since gambling in the USA has shut out Moneybookers they are looking to pick up the slack by taking on Paypal's slice of the pie.

Recently Moneybookers has redesigned its website , white design with a setup better for newbies.

Before it was a bit spartan and keyed more for high rollers ,so Moneybookers is looking more promising more and more , although it will be eclipsed by Googlecheckout I think Money bookers is still the best second or third option in a sellers strategy.
