Member to Member Help Desk : Bidville VS U-Bid

kenbixCARDS&COMICS (368) Posted 2/5/2007 10:31:47 AM

I was watching TV this morning and on came this really great commercial for "U-BID"....
I asked myself where is Bidvilles advertising? It was a great commercial. I guess that is why Bidville isn`t going anywhere... no help from the ownership. The apparently only care about U-Bid...Where is Bidvilles commercial?...The last contact ownership has had with us here at Bidville was Sept of 2006...Such a shame that this wonderful group of people here at Bidvlle get no help from the ownership... certainly is a sad state of affairs.

Sales Discussion : No Google No Froogle

FBNeNotes (90) Posted 2/5/2007 12:51:50 PM

Bidville tells me they will not allow Bidville listing etc. onto those sites, duh !!
What are we here for.. to stare at the walls?
No advertising, no feeds to Google etc.
The worst I have ever seen, ever.
There direct answer to me today...

This has nothing to do with Bidville. I believe it is Google that will not allow the listings. I have checked with the Techincal Department on this. Thank you.

When did google change their rules about feeds? The other auction sites are still listed on google! Or maybe Ubid doesn't want to do 'business' with google/froogle? Thye're not in competition with each other, so I don't see a problem there. I just don't understand why they won't advertise a company that belongs to them on the Ubid site. That doesn't make sense.

Google Base is much improved over what it was last year.

I submitted listings (using the web form) and they all showed up
on Froogle within hours.

I realize it can be time consuming, listing hundreds of items
but you can combine similar items and submit as inventory lists.

I submitted one list of 200 DVD titles, one list of 150 Videos,
and one list of 150 CDs within minutes. The listings come up
in searches for any title included on the lists.

Another reason to consider inventory lists and creating a group
to list your items.

So Sports Connection, are sales smokin here at bidville or what ??

Hey Bob, if you dont like the sales, you could always just leave instead of ruining it for everyone else.

bobkluver (0) Posted 2/5/2007 11:38:23 PM

Me ruin what, I have only been here 10 days.

I see you have 59 feed-backs and you have been here over a year???

Explain to me who I am ruining it for. I am just trying to get bidville to start doing better in promoting this site. If you just sit here and make the bidville management team (ha ha) think you are content with 59 sales in a year, Bidville will have no reason to make anything better. I see all this praise about bidville. Praise for what?? Why does bidville deserve any praise?? Seen any TV ads?? Seen any Internet ads? Heard any radio ads??? No, you haven`t! Can you type auction site in a Google search box and try to find a direct link to this site?? Hell No!(but you will find a pay per click ad for Ubid.com) I doubt if most eBay buyers have ever even heard of bidville. I never did. I came hear because of a few posts on eBay. When I came here I thought, hey this could work. After some searching around, I see it ain`t going to work, not without promotion. I look around and I see very few people who look like they are making any sales at all, at least nothing to write home about. You think that`s going to change without advertisement??

No my friend, I haven`t ruined anything. There is nothing here to ruin.

I believe its past time for a "reality check" for sellers on all the
alternative sites.

I spent one year on Bidville, years on Yahoo Auctions, more time
on iOffer, Blujay, ecrater, etc.

Its been 6 or 7 years and not a single site has evolved into a
realistic alternative to eBay. Six to seven years and Bidville's
daily traffic is 5 pageviews per 1,000,000 internet users.

This 5 pageviews per million includes sellers on the site.
Bidville is a virtual ghost town.

I don't have any easy answers, but we are in desperate need
of ideas and suggestions where sellers on ALL the alternative
sites can't start moving in the same direction.

I've always wanted to see a portal to all small sites where you can search one huge engine and it'll show the matching listings at various sites. Sort of like an auction mall. Of course all of the small sites would have to cooperate with each other. If they shared resources then perhaps some national advertising would happen.

Cuff; I was hoping Froogle would be that portal. Unfortunately,
Froogle is flooded with eBay listings.

This would be a good project for groups. Sellers listing items
and linking to all their listings on Bidville, iOffer, Blujay, Yahoo, etc.

I will add this to my group homepage. Groups has the advantage
of creating more traffic for your listings as your group membership
increases.

Groups has the advantage of creating more traffic for your listings as your group membership increases. I get more sales
from my groups with 2,000+ members than I did with 500.

One Example: The Bidville Group on MSN has 598 members.

Much better if each member created their own group showcasing
their own items with each member joining all the other groups.

Then you have 598 groups and 598 members in each group
(assuming every seller joins every other sellers' group).
Which every seller should do. Mutual support with sellers moving
in the same direction.

Google groups has more traffic than MSN groups, and Yahoo
Groups has more than twice the traffic of Google groups.
The number of members is more important on Google and
Yahoo as it determines the ranking for group searches.

If each member sets up mirror groups on MSN, Google, and
Yahoo with everyone joining each others group, you would
have 1794 groups, each with 598 members.

This is Bidville sellers only. If you combine sellers from all the
alternative sites, you could create thousands of groups with
thousands of members in each group.

This assumes 100% mutual support between sellers of all
the alternative sites. But should become evident that its
academic where sellers actually host their listings as long as
they are all working together.

Sellers could list all or part of their listings in their groups with
the balance on whatever alternative site they are using.
Also sellers could list in other groups of similar categories
if they so choose.

The momentum would build on itself.
Sellers using groups would become a force for online sales.

General Discussion : Account on hold

eghii (121) Posted 2/5/2007 6:04:40 PM

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Why would Bidville allow an account that was on hold have a half dozen featured auctions displayed on the home page? Talk about a negative influence for buyers...

nursedi_1999 (475) Posted 2/15/2007 11:45:26 AM

Before Bidville went under new management, alot of sellers had their fees taken out of paypal by Bidville each month. For some reason they don`t do that anymore. My account was put on hold for 3.00 the first time and now for 6.00. They use to automatically take the fees out when they were due. Seems like new management doesn`t know how to do this. Makes me mad!! Trying to explain this to your customers is a pain in the A@@. So in most cases it is not the sellers fault.

I already paid it. I know about that link. What I am saying is they use to take it out when it was due and you didn`t have to worry about it!!

Funny, they took my payment as usual without me having to do a single thing. All I had to do was put my credit card on file.
It`s worked that ways for as long as I can remember, they even sent me a notice telling me my credit card had expired and I needed to update it. But they did not put my account on hold.

Some credit cards won`t accept very small amounts though. Then there can be a problem.

Yes, I just posted prior to this one a thread concerning this very issue (see: And I thought feebay was a load of ...). I am new and this was the first time I had a balance to pay (for a grand total of $1.70). I am used to the ethical handling of such things and of course, pay my fees as soon as I am invoiced. It never occurred to me fees could be over due as it hadn`t even been a month since these fees were accrued. The first I heard was this morning when I received an email informing me that my account was on hold for this non payment. This is the most unprofessional site I have ever been affiliated with and so grateful I decided to check it out before plopping down any money for a subscription! This was my third try to sell on BV and each and every time I`ve been insulted so I`m done here. There are too many great selling venues where I actually sell stuff and don`t have any kind of fees except credit card processing so I am wondering why I wasted so much of my time on this losing proposition to begin with. Live and learn!
