Greetings!

We have recently upgraded our auction system and completely redesigned our auction site to better serve our clients needs. We have also moved to a robust server to handle increased website traffic. All current members will need to re-register on the new system and for having to deal with our 'dust' we are currently giving all new registered members a $1,000 credit to be used for optional listing features.

At Smarts Auctions you will always be able to list basic listings for free and there will never be a final value fee charged on any auction. In 7 to 10 days we will release our redesigned user store system and we are soon to release our bulk listing software at no cost to you!

One of the new features that we have added to our site is the requirement for all sellers to be ID Verified. Currently we manually verify all accounts for a nominal fee of $5.00. Also, sellers can require that only ID Verified users can bid on their items. This will create an auction community with limited fraud and one in which you can be confident in both buying and selling.

There are many new features and enhancements that will be rolled out over the next several weeks. Soon we will also be releasing our own online payment system that will be incorporated into the site to allow for non-paypal related payments for those of use that really do not wish to use their system.

Best regards,

Greetings!

We now have bulk lister software available free of charge for all users. You can list 1 to thousands of listings at once right from your desk top.

We have many upgrades that will be added to our auction system next week and will be launching a very large ad campaign on 7/1/05. The ad campaign will advertise all listings directly to people that have an interest in your type of listings on our site. (this is a 'top secret' method that does not include spam or any other type of annoying advertising!) Our site listings also get very good page ranking with google and other online search engines.

We are continuing our quest to be on the cutting edge of auction technology and to provide the very best in customer support!

Come give us a try today!

Thanks for the reply!

On the 'top secret' advertising method. Most other auction sites use banners, google, overture etc. Not only are these methods potencially expensive the results are less than fantastic as they really are not specific enough. So what we have decided to do is take our users listings turn them into a text advertisement and then post them directly to millions of people that are specifically interested in the type of listings that our users post on our site. We are still testing the programming for this and may be able to release this prior to the 7/1/05 deadline along with many other upgrades to the site.

One thing that we realize is that no site is perfect and no site will meet everyones specific needs, but we will try to meet as many as we can. So please give us feedback on the site and the functions of the site so we can continue to improve.

Greetings,

Our ID Verification system has brought the scammers to their knees! Gone are the days of 'oops my secretary sent you $10,000 check too much, it will please me if you send overage back via Western Union to my friend in Aruba as I am political refugee in Nigeria.....' or other such nonsense.

Smarts Auctions only allows ID Verified Sellers and Sellers have the option of only allowing bids from ID Verified Bidders. We have just started processing ID Verifications for our users last week and will be launching the site officially on 7/1/05 with the 'top secret' advertising system! Also, as part of our marketing we will be re-investing 75% of all revenues into advertising for the site for the next 12 months minimum.

Our major system upgrades have been delayed for a few days as our programmers are working out the 'nitty gritty details' however, it will be completed no later than the 7/1/05 deadline for our advertising blitz.

Thank you smartauctions for the updates on your new site

It appears you've been quite busy with building and upgrading

I noticed you started posting here back in early Feb of this year yet while gazing upon your new site this am you've only got (6) items up for bid....

I know it must rather diffcult to get a site started, upgraded and out into the marketplace for the buyers to search

From what I saw, you seem to have all of the needed features sellers are looking for but no sellers...

Where are you located and when did you launch?...Your site appears to be in great order but with few users after 5 months

As in the past, please keep us updated from time to time reference STR, new features, catagories and marketing plans...

Thank you!

Thank you for your interest Elgato.

First of all you are right it takes a lot of time and effort to get an auction site up and running especially against industry giants like that 'other' company.

I Started Smarts Auctions in theory about 1 year ago after having many problems with that 'other' auction site's general lack of customer service and one sided interpretations of their user agreement. I spent the first several months streamlining what was really needed for an auction site and what I wanted my role to be in developing it. This included features and site search engine optimization as well as general overall administrative duties. Then I launched a 'test' site to see how my theories would be accepted by the auction community. Namely:

Streamlined site layout
Logical and intelligent customer service
Minimized advertisements
Simplified Category system

The Current site was 'launched' on May 21st after realizing that our previous site did not have an image that we could market and at that time we made it a requirement that all sellers be ID Verified. We did not 'Grandfather' in any previous users of our site and realized that it would take some rebuilding to get back to the level of members that we previously had with our old site. However, we felt that it was worth the effort as our users would not have to deal with the rampant fraud that we have seen on many other auction sites. Remember, every auction site out there including that 'other' site started with one lonely member and we knew that we would be no exception!

As the word spreads about our site and the features we have in place we feel that many users will migrate to our site. Also, as we give a $1,000 credit when you sign up you will be able to use our optional features at no cost. As more listings are added to the site we will get even greater exposure on google, yahoo, msn and other search engines and together with our 'top secret' advertising campaign we will be able to aggressively advertise our user's individual auction listings to the Internet.

In short this site officially launches 7/1/05 and we have put a lot of thought into how to operate it and make it successful for our users sake. If you like what we have to offer post a few items give the site time to catch on and I think that you will be happy with the results.

We are located in Tualatin Oregon, USA and will soon be incorporated in the state of Nevada. We will remain a US company and will not outsource any of our company to any non-US based company. i.e. customer service. Any jobs we create will remain in the US... Period!

Our goal is to provide the most user friendly auction site on the planet!

Best regards,

Rick

Our fee for ID Verification has been reduced to $1.00 USD as we are not looking to make any profits on the verification process and only need to cover our expense of the manual verification process that is required for every user we verify.

Thank God for not outrsorcing your CS. The one dollar fee might discourage members... sad but true. Free sites everywhere why bother paying a dollar. I mean, if it works out for you tha'ts great, but you may want to considering taking these costs. Remember, the more you spend verifying members, the more members you have. I think keeping it free with the verification would work well. I mean honestly, 1000 members would be impressive and it might cost you 1000 dollars, but after a while you should recover those fees. Just my opinion, I'll check out your site now and see what you got, just wanted to respond to the site description you offered up. Talk to you soon.

I have a bit of criticism for the site. There seem to be quite a few fees there and I was wondering if you could possibly remove some of them. Additional pictures, buy it now and reserve I think you should remove if you want to be competitive with established sites. TAM has tons of traffic, many items, and much lower fees. How can you penetrate a market with established sites like this charging less? If verifying members is your best plan then it might work, but charging the dollar is counteractive to the whole appeal of the verification.

The colours of red on blue makes it hard to read, you have that somewhere when you go to view an item, can't remember what it said though. Oh, and that ID verified check sign is horrible lol. No offence, but I could make the same symbol on Paint with the draw option, so you might want to look into a neater checkmark. That checkmark, if done right, is a great idea though. Seeing that there gives the buyer confidence in the seller as you've stated that you made the ID verification, but you gotta make it look less amateurish.

Just a few thoughts. I don't want to be harsh or cruel, but I'm trying to help you out as it seems that the fee structure is just too high to go against established sites with smaller fees. Remember, people are willing to pay more for an established site, so even matching the fees of established sites isn't a garauntee of success, but it'll increase your odds a whole lot more than if you're charging more. Anyways Best of luck to you and your site, and I shall talk to you sooon :).

Greetings and thanks for the response!

Ok have to disagree with you on the fees. The ID Verification is only $1.00 and feebay charges $5.00 and as stated it costs time and money to have the ID's manually verified. If someone doesn't want to pay the $1.00 fee for ID Verification then I don't want them on my site and realistically there is really no less expensive way to verify someones ID. The other fees are considerably cheaper then feebay and many other sites out there and that along with the fact that we give our users a $1,000 credit to use for optional enhancements to listings(over 140 plus auctions at maximum fee charge FREE) we feel that we are more than reasonable. Additionally we have no insertion fees or final value fees; for example all basic listings i.e. one photo and no enhancements are always FREE! You can sell as many items in this manner at absolutely no charge.

Yes the ID Check logo or icon is very simple and obviously got your attention and we are working to produce a much more 'commercial' version of the image however, it did get your attention which is the point. We are working to change the 'red on blue' for the ID Verification required image to make it more user friendly as we have had other users tell us the same thing about the visual impact of the image.

I do appreciate your comments and look forward to you listing some items for sale as you have nothing to lose and everything to gain!

Best regards,

Rick
