First of all, I'm going to move this OP over to the "sellers Q&A" thread after responding to the OP's question

YES!!!
My own PSU web store has generated more sales in the past MONTH than what I made selling on ebay through-out the entire "online holiday shopping season" last year Very Happy

Don't be shy, jump out here with the rest of the online business owners and start your own business!

WORK FOR YOURSELF, NOT OTHERS!

How long has your PSU web store been open El Gato? Just so the OP and others will have a general idea of how long it takes to generate that number of sales.

That sounds a lot like what I've been trying to tell these people for months now...only I think I phrased it "Invest in Yourself". Thumbsup

I have a very seasonal item - vegie seeds. I usually do well mainly from Feb to April with OK sales in Jan and May. March is usually my best month each year.

While i haven't totaled Feb yet, So far this Jan sales were as good as even my best March year and I think Feb was just as good if not better.

I'm getting about 50-60% from my web site and the rest mostly split about equal from Blujay and eCrater with a bit from eBid and a few others.

Now I have never been a "power seller" and that's not my intention. But I do need the income from my sales now more than I did before when hubby had an "off farm" job.

I also won't try to tell you good sales will happen "overnite". I've had my web site for several years. But my web sales are better than my eBay sales ever were.

Just stick with it. Winter isn't necessarily a "prime time" for many people for selling. eBay knows that and that's why they do this cruddy stuff now. They know people won't get fantastic sales and will crawl back. Use eBay a bit if you have to to promote your other places. But don't "depend" on eBay.

Carol

Anyone that is just now leaving Ebay and trying the alternatives or opened their own store won't have much business at first.
It takes time to build anything and it is the same building customers.

Not yet, but I'm optimistic! Haven't had time to really stock up my stores well.

I have found the more words you can get into the searches the more people you will have come through your site.

I've signed up with google analytics and it has really helped me tone up my keywords and I really love the reports!

You know it also depends on how much your competition you've got too. Alot of my items I'm #1 in the search engines cause nobody has this junk to be quite honest with you. Alot of my merchandise has been here for a couple years and never made it into my store (hurricane seasons from you know where - katrina damage and a gazillion surgeries)

So the stuff I'm sitting on people have not been able to track down for a couple years and they are thrill to find it.... Nobody on ebay has the stuff so I'm it

Good idea Lori and great advice for upcoming website owners Very Happy

Sorry RiverRat for not answering your post sooner but just haven't checked this OP for the past few days.

I've been on & off ebay for about 4 years now and have learned to list my stuff over there ONLY during the pre-Christmas online shopping season.
I can list on my own PSU web store/site year round with little expense. I THINK my PSU store was one of the "guinea pigs" early on back in mid 2005, but not real sure. I'll have to prowl on over to whois or where ever and find out.

I tend to promote my own web site/store over the alternatives since I usually post my "more unique" or "latest products" THERE first, over the many alternative online selling venues I list on.

This may surprise many but my second largest online store is at loudfrog.com then third is bidcorral.net Shocked These sites are the one's which bring in sales now a days but who is to know what tomorrow will bring?
