I came across what I believe is some type of smudge pot, similar (but not exactly) to the picture in the link below. I would post a picture, but I do not know how to do that. It is cast iron (I think), VERY heavy, has a SOLID brass lid, and has some type of "stir stick" with a bulbous head. I was half-told it had something to do with the railroad. ANY help identifying this piece would be helpful. Or if someone could tell me how to link to a REAL picture of it, I will post the picture and get some better ideas of what this thing is. Thanks for any help.

I don't know an antique pot from a pile of metal, but here's the picture from your link....

Generally, you have to have your picture on the web and then paste with the url in a reference link. This picture is posted by the following code, except the first [img is totally enclosed as [img] -- if I enclosed it in the following example it would just show the pot again!

Thanks Mongoose! Now, how about some suggestions people. Look at the pic and then mentally fill in "my" description. What do I have here?

The photo looks like the smudge pot on that website, but I thought most smudge pots were used in orchards or fruit tree groves? Confused

Thanks all, but no one has "hit" on it yet. The list from Skeeter was pretty good, but did not show the one I have. I would love to post a pic if someone could explain how I would do that.

If you have a picture of the pot on your computer:

Go to a photo storage service such as Photobucket.com. You can open free storage accounts just by signing up. Upload your picture to your album. Upload tools easy to use -- located toward upper right hand corner. After uploading, just click to go to your album; no need to label, etc. Beneath the picture you will see a few different tags for posting your picture on various formated sites.

Just left click on the IMG code, come to the forum and right click, then past the IMG code. Hit the "preview" button and you should see your picture. If correct, click submit. The picture below I took from my photobucket account.

Nope, it is NOT a dutch oven. I have yet to see another picture that acurately represents the item I have.

"I have yet to see another picture that acurately represents the item I have."

Until you can show a picture of the pot you have instead of one "similar" to it, all people can do is guess. It's like the game of having people guess what you're holding in your hand behind your back.

Nice idea!

However, the image is too small to be of real value for seeing the item closely. If you email me a full size image, I'll post it here for you.
