PostPosted: Mon Oct 06, 2008 10:41 pm   Post subject: Warning ! Need Help on Suspected Ebay Scam #1  Back to top

I'm not familiar with Ebay, and I honestly do not trust it whatsoever.

But I found a very low priced car on Ebay Motors that I wanted to purchase for my small dealership.

Unfortunately, the seller is giving me too many suspicious flags, such as free shipping (car is in another state), claiming the money will be held until I okay the transfer to Ebay.

Now he says that I don't need an Ebay account, and Ebay will contact me with the information. All he needs is a name and shipping address, and then Ebay will tell me the info.

Am I getting the run around? I asked for a fax of the car's title but so far have not received it, he is also saying that if I do not like the car I can return it at his expense.

It all seems suspicious to me, any help you can give me on how I can go about this matter would be great.

The price he is selling the vehicle for is way below market value, and I'm worried the car is stolen or does not exist.

Thanks for any help!

Dihs.

Run, run very fast away from "a deal that is too good to be true."

This thing stinks like the bailout bill -- won't help anyone except for the con man promoting it.

He is currently online with his GMAIL account, and has replied as soon as I gave him my name and business location, along with a seperate Ebay notification that looks immensly suspicious.

The Ebay notice email address is vpp@ebay-safetransaction.com

Should I go about any dealing any further or report this individual for fradulent activites?

I emailed the seller immediately afterwards after he sent me a reply and the Ebay notice, asking for a faxed copy of the title and fictiously saying that I have a friend who is on vaction within the vicinity of the cars location and that he would like to look at the car in person.

So far he has not replied as quickly as before, I can only guess that he cannot come up with the information.

That's a bogus eBay email address.

Just to be sure, forward it to spoof@ebay.com ...they'll tell you fairly soon what they think of it.

You're dealing with a homegrown version of the Nigerian scammer.

Thanks for all your help, this really is a great forum.

The Ebay notice that depicted my name as the buyer, has amazingly changed to that of another name! It appears that perhaps the "seller" inadvertantly sent me the another unsupecting buyers info by mistake.

I am since discontinuing any further conversation, and will be emailing the "seller" that I have reported him to Ebay, Gmail, and IC3.org

If you have any other sites that I should look into to reporting this scammer, please let me know.

Thanks for all the help you've all given me, really appreciate it!

Dihs.

Just as a general observation, with the economy going in the toilet we're going to be seeing a rapid surge in scam artists plying their trade.

They see it as a prime opportunity to strike honest folks who are looking to either get a great deal or make a quit profit.

Definitely a time to be overly suspicious even at the possible cost of losing out on an occasional good deal. There will be many more scams out there than good deals when the price seems almost too good to be true.

How long have you been a Car Dealer? I was in the Car business for 35 years and still have a valid Dealers License in my state. Get away from this clown. Far away.

What are you thinking?

In my humble experienced opinion, I would never buy a "vehicle" on E-Bay. With their track record with Scammers running amok. No way.

What happens in this case, no clue.

Dumbest thing is to buy a vehicle on Ebay as a rule for the run of the mill vehicles. IMO

i have brought cars off of ebay but never buy a car unless u inspect it and test drive it first. also make sure you pay cash in person and get the log book signed over.
if the seller will not do this he is hiding something or trying to scam you

Here's straight out of the Book!

Always buy a used Car from a Reputable Licensed "in compliance" Dealer from your home State.

You buy from a private party is always cheaper and riskier.

And for God's sakes, don't rely on Carfax.

What a joke that is.

Your choice.
