Hello, I currently have paypal set up for my new ecrater store.
However I have been hearing that some/a lot of buyers are shy of paypal or they don't know what it is, etc etc, are reluctant to pay thru paypal, etc.

Also have heard that google checkout some/a lot of buyers are more comfortable/feel more safe paying thru G ckout.

I would love to hear others' experiences with both pp and g.

I have had paypal on my primary website for 2 years, and except for one customer who said she didn't like/want to go thru paypal for her order,
(she did go ahead and order anyway, after I assured her who paypal is, etc,) my other customers have paid thru pp and there has not been a problem. I thot a lot of people do know what/who paypal is.

Anyway, does signing up for a G ckout acct cost $$?
Do they have fees for each seller transaction like pp does?

Any info would be appreciated!

Thank you.
Ann.

My google Checkout customers are 5 to 1 over PP these days. I would suggest you offer both at this time, as you do not want to lose a sale for any reason.

Google is almost exactly the same to set-up as Paypal. Open an account, they deposit a few cents, you verify your account and they automatically put the funds in your account, you don't have to withdraw them like PP.

They are actually cheaper to use than PP. I guess that doesn't surprise you!!! Laughing

Hi dl, thank you so much for the prompt response!
Is there a charge for setting up a google ckout acct?

It does sound easy to set up; do you know the web address I would go to, so I can set up g ckout?

Or maybe I should just type in to G google checkout and it will probably come up.

How have you experience ecrater saleswise, and otherwise?

I have just set up shop there recently.
Also atomic mall, how do you find selling there?
Is ruby lane only for antiques, and I have heard of angelfire before, think I have seen their site(s,) but I was always confused as to what/who angelfire is.

Thankyou!

Ann.

I use both PP as well as GCO in my OLA store for the same reason mentioned by dlrane. For me, it lays out like this: as eBayer sellers leave, many are leaving PP behind as well as eBay because they want no association with any eBay in any entity. That said, it is a different case for buyers, who have no 'issues' (or few issues may be saying it better) and only have and know PP. I personally am not willing to leave any payment option out when possible. I offer PP, GCO, Personal Checks, Postal Money Orders, Local Pick Up, and of course the newest darling of the online payment venues, RevolutionMoneyExchange (which doesn't charge the seller OR the buyer a fee for transactions).

I agree offer both. You need to offer as many alternatives for payment as possible to reach a wider range of buyers. I prefer GC but I accept both.

@annsbeauty,
Google is not only free to set up. but you actually make a few cents from the deposit they put in your account to verify it. Yes, just Google the name for the checkout url.

I have not done so well on eCrater, but I have not put my best into it. I had more stuff on the site, but I have either sold it off-site or moved it to another location.

I have made 3 sales this week from my Atomic Mall Store so I am seeing a good possibility for me at this site.

As for Ruby Lane, things are really taking off for me over there. I am averaging a sale a day for the last 2 weeks. They have recently, expanded their categories and are allowing some lower end items in the collectibles, books, post card and other categories. You will just have to go check it out. There are items from $5 to $50,000, and they have a good solid reputation among the buying customers. I actually sent a few items out before recieving payment and had no problems at all. I wold not suggest that on a regular basis, but I am building a new reputation there , and the buyers were long time Ruby Lane buyers. They were thrilled and so was I.

Basically you will just have to flow with the learning curve a tthis point. check out sites that interest you for your products and try several. If you try one at a time it could be a while before you see any progress. JMO

I like Google checkout. I've been using it for a little over a month and I'm finding that it's running about equal with my Paypal payments. I haven't had any problems with it yet. Just don't forget to go in and manually charge the order if you have it set up that way! Smile
