O Auctions Community,

We're happy to announce to you that we will have our 3rd Party Payment Integration feature ready for use on November 3rd. We will have integration with PayPal and Google Checkout. We are working through a 3rd party called CardinalCommerce. We are thrilled about this upgrade.

Cudos to Overstock if this comes to fruition.
Cudos to Doug for getting it done.
I mean ........... it only took a few years and 3 different "heads" to accomplish what was asked for 4 years ago.

Must agree with ole BFD on the CUDOS to the O auction site in adding the GC payment process. This allows buyers to use different avenues in which to pay for their purchased products at the O.
It also allows sellers a more economical way of collecting $$ online without the excessive PP/ebay fees IMHO. Smile

I'm scratching my head... Why do they need CardinalCommerce if the sellers here can do it themselves? *shakes head* I must be missing something... Is it because there are multiple users? Is it really that hard?

Well PRG, if you know anything about the O auctions they MOST ALWAYS use a "3rd party" to intergrate a new "widget" at their auction site.

NOT KNOCKING THEM BUT (IE BUT a BFD word) Very Happy .....This may be in part that they themselves cannot afford a quality and competant staff in which to involke their own ideas and upgrades, as with most of the ideas brought into the past. JMHO though Embarassed

The O auction site, if following the same rules of upgrades over the past several years, usually use a "3rd party" to do most of their marketing and upgrades of which sellers (for years) have been begging for.

Once again, thanks to "whom ever" brought the GC payment plan to the O auction site.

There are levels of integration with Google Checkout.

eCrater has an API link for GC where BluJay does not. Probably they are referring to what eCrater has but not what BluJay has.

Well it's not that easy. Designing to the needs of a single operation isn't that hard but taking into account all the possibilities can multiply the problems.

I'm confused ............... definately not a first.

When I first read about this, I just assumed (THAT may be the problem) that Overstock would be integrating PayPal, GoogleCheckout, whatever into the listing in a fashion similar to eBay with PayPal where you click on a link in the listing and it takes you to PayPal .. Google .. whoever and you signon and pay.

After doing a little more look-see into this Cardinal Commerce ........ it appears that this is just another 'checkout service' similar to the one Channel Advisor, Vendio, and mutiple other auction management systems provide. You know the ones I mean ...... where they make the buyer jump throw hoops submitting all kinds of information and by the time you are done you almost wish you hadn't won the listing so you would not have had to go thru all of this.

And I'm going to take a wild stab in the dark here ..... I bet they don't do it for free. Rolling Eyes

So you list the item, pay the insertion fees. (Overstock's are not unreasonable)
The item sells so you pay FVFs.
The buyer runs thru this 'checkout' and they get a fee. (A % or maybe a monthy fee)
The buyer used PayPal, so PP get's their fees. (We know what those are.)

Did I miss any "fees" ???

I have GOT to get a bigger pair of pants.
There are soooooooo many hands in my pockets I just don't have any room for my car keys.

You got that one right BFD! With the taxes charged to most online sellers now a days, local tax, fuel tax, school tax, county, (if you should live in one)--> city taxes, it's a wonder any of us are making any "net profits" oin our sales...no matter where you sell you wares Rolling Eyes

Many locals have changed into excepting CASH ONLY for their products they sell...which I did a few months ago. Twisted Evil

BTW BFD, I've gone to a size 32 wasteline to a 38 due to those whom have their greedy hands in MY pockets Shocked and it's NOT caused by consuming too many nachos!

Update on BFD's topic:

"Overstock Auctions Integrates with PayPal and Google Checkout"

Overstock.com integrated PayPal and Google Checkout on the Overstock Auctions platform this week. The integration lets buyers pay for Overstock Auction purchases using the online payment services, and works as follows.

After an auction is won, the buyer receives an email containing a link to a payment option page, where they will see the payment options available from the seller. The buyer selects a payment method and is directed offsite to the payment processor page, where they log in and complete the transaction. Once the transaction is completed, the buyer is redirected back to a "thank you" page on Overstock Auctions.

Combined invoicing is not supported, but Overstock.com said it is on the 2009 road map. In the meantime, sellers offering multiple purchase discounts must provide a manual invoice. Overstock will charge no additional fees to merchants for the integration, who will continue to pay merchant fees to PayPal and Google Checkout.

Overstock also changed its policy for Make It Mine sales (similar to eBay's Buy It Now feature).

I do like the fact they returned the Make It Mine back to the way it was originally.
They killed a lot of sales when they put the starting bidX1.5 in place.
