This morning I heard my first MEG radio ad.

She : ''I created jobs on ebay''.

I'd like to see an objective, independent study of exactly how many people now make all or a significant part of their living on eBay, and compare that to the "1.2 million" claimed by Whitman a year or two before her exit. Then we'd see how many "jobs" were created - or destroyed!

One thing is for sure - her campaign will definitely bring noise to the world regarding ebay which could be a good thing...

Can't wait to see the attention it will generate -

"Can Meg Whitman's eBay success translate in Sacramento?"

Just a couple of weeks ago, Meg Whitman's handlers had a tidy political narrative to present to Californians:

An amiable, ethical businesswoman almost single-handedly builds one of Silicon Valley's most storied Internet companies, making her a billionaire and thousands of average folks successful business people. She retires from San Jose-based eBay and decides that this dysfunctional state needs her business acumen in the governor's office.

But in recent days, the Republican hopeful and her team have been forced to play defense amid revelations that the 53-year-old former CEO supported liberal Democratic U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer's re-election in 2004 and didn't register to vote until she was 46. She offered no excuses for her poor voting record, but later explained: "I was focused on raising a family, on my husband's career, and we moved many, many times."

With Whitman's glow tarnished, the scrutiny will only increase, political analysts say. And the likeliest target is her 10-year tenure at eBay, the online auction house she turned into a global brand name.

In recent weeks, the Mercury News interviewed numerous current and former eBay employees, buyers and sellers, investors and stock analysts, asking them to judge her performance and predict how it might translate to running the state. The consensus: Whitman was a hands-on and savvy CEO whose reign was somewhat blemished by poor decisions and a series of ethically dubious stock deals. The first seven years of her leadership were generally brilliant, the last few years relatively lackluster.

While her corporate track record suggests that Whitman would bring a new brand of leadership to state government, it also makes clear she has never faced anything quite like the political dysfunction that grips the Golden State.

> "I was focused on raising a family, on my husband's career, and we moved many, many times."

As if she were the only person in the universe with business to attend to. Some of us have voted for decades, and we don't have a support staff.

[Edit] ''I was SO focused that I did not have the TIME! to read my husband's Voter's PamphletS or even know if he voted. (this presumes that HE volted). It was all just too, too, too, much for me.''

''poor voting record'' = NO voting record until post-working for Boxer. Old Babs, another dandy.

Ptooey.

Ms. Meg did not protect or exercise her own right to vote ''until she was 46'', a scant seven years ago.(MPV falls off her chair) and now she wants to run the voters of California.

Like Sisyphus of Greek legend she's got a lot of hills to climb.

Rock on...

I am reminded of Thomas Paine's ''summer soldiers and sunshine patriots''.

Apparently, her husband (again, assuming HE voted), never wore home his ''I Have Voted Have You'' tag on his coat.

Most everything comes out in the wash.

Meg Whitman and Jerry Brown both running or looking at running for Governor of California?

I seriously believe that on that particular ballot, the last name listed should be ....

None of the above

T'would be my vote too.
We're had enough of the Brown family to last this State several lifetimes.

Update:

"Bundled donations enrich Whitman's warchest"

Last week, retired eBay CEO Meg Whitman put $20 million of her own money into her quest for the Republican nomination for governor. Her campaign manager, Jill Hasner, quickly noted that contributors other than Whitman had already pitched in $10.2 million to the campaign, demonstrating “overwhelming donor support from Californians."

Who gives money to a candidate with such deep pockets?

State records show that of the $10.2 million, about $1.6 million came in bundled donations – checks written by several officials from the same corporations who often made their donations at about the same time, often at the legal limit of $25,900.

Executives from eBay, where Whitman was CEO until 2007, have been especially generous. Eleven eBay employees combined to give Whitman $151,600, state records show. She got $25,900 each from CEO John Donahoe, from the head of strategic initiatives, Eskander Kazim, and from Rajiv Dutta, who has headed eBay subsidiaries Skype and Paypal.

Related to OP:

"Accusation Adds Heat to California Governor's Race"

The Republican primary race for California's governorship turned increasingly hostile Monday, after underdog Steve Poizner accused front-runner Meg Whitman of offering to clear the GOP field for a U.S. Senate race if he dropped his gubernatorial bid.

Mr. Poizner showed reporters an email that a Whitman consultant, Michael Murphy, wrote his campaign last week that said her camp "could unite entire party behind Steve right now to build a serious race against" Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein in 2012. The email added the Whitman campaign could spend more than $40 million "tearing up Steve" if he stayed in the race.

Ms. Whitman's campaign said it did nothing illegal and portrayed the accusation as a desperate move by Mr. Poizner.

Mr. Murphy added that he had been trying to persuade Mr. Poizner to drop his bid so Republicans could unite around Ms. Whitman and focus on trying to defeat state Attorney General Jerry Brown, the lone Democratic gubernatorial candidate, in the November election.

The shots fired from the two campaigns are the fiercest so far in the race for California's Republican gubernatorial nomination. The June election in the nation's most populous state pits two multimillionaires in Ms. Whitman, former chief executive of eBay Inc., and Mr. Poizner, the state's insurance commissioner and a former technology entrepreneur.

Update & perhaps xppman will get his wish:

"Democrats gearing up with $40 million effort to attack GOP s Meg Whitman"

Frightened that Jerry Brown's campaign coffers aren't rich enough to battle a billionaire to become California's next governor, three separate Democratic and pro-labor groups are poised to raise more than $40 million to start trashing GOP front-runner Meg Whitman.

Over the next week, the Democratic Governors Association and two other groups will pour an unprecedented wave of cash into a negative advertising campaign four months ahead of the June 8 primary.

The offensive comes at a time Democrats across the country are increasingly concerned about the growing popularity of Republican candidates in the 13 months since President Barack Obama took office, even in traditional Democratic strongholds.

This should all be entertaining as the shovels come out to dig out the skeletons.

I plan on just sitting back and watch this reality show unfold.
