As states scramble to fill coffers, lawmakers are getting creative in dreaming up new ways to tax you.

Kiplinger tracked down 10 of the zaniest state tax laws that could be homing in on your wallet any legislative session now:

*Shoe repair -- The Pennsylvania state legislature is looking to add a 6 percent sales tax to the service.

*Watch repair and tailoring -- New York is considering taxing both at 4 percent.

*Bowling -- 26 states are already taxing the pseudo sport and several more, including Nevada and New Mexico, are looking to join the fray.

*Golf -- Kentucky wants a 6 percent sales tax on greens fees.

*Pool cleaning -- Indiana wants to join several other states in adding a 6 percent sales tax to what you pay your pool boy.

*Gym memberships -- Alabama wants your license to sweat to cost 4 percent more.

*Horseback riding -- Arizona aims to make horse owners pay 5.6 percent more to board horses on farms.

*Interior decorating -- Oregon, Colorado and New Jersey want to tack on anywhere from 2 to 6 percent in taxes on pro interior decorator services.

*Large vehicle rentals -- Louisiana may add a 4 percent tax to rentals of buses or large trucks.

Texas passed a "service" tax a long time ago. Any one who preformed a service... plumber to cleaners to poolboy and back again... had to charge tax.

"Bed Tax" was passed back in the 80s in CA. And the other states followed suit.

Colorado would tax the air and the sunshine if they could only figure out how. Denver needs more money so the rest of the state is held at gunpoint. (the Denver metro area has the majority of the population in the state hence they have the State House sewn up.) Our rural highways are literally falling to pieces while they are building new ones in Denver, after "saying" that the money will go for rural highways. And you vote one Bozo out only to find the next one just as bad or worse. Rolling Eyes

I wish everyone could have heard Ed Wallace today.

But yeah, CA would tax air and sunshine too, if they could.

And they damn near do... Solar energy and wind turbines.

Wisconsin is horrible too. Not just on Taxes but also on Licenses. You have to have a License for darn near EVERYTHING here in Wi.

I made my last batch of hot sauce while I had a kitchen license several years ago. Totally legal in every way. But because I didn't renew the license a couple of years later because i didn't need to make more yet, they now won't let me sell what I still have of the sauce, even tho it was made legally.

If I had known they were going to do that of course I would have renewed the license, but now I can't just renew it but need a new license and inspection and everything. Just a lot of BS to get some more money.
