Really good, I like the music, brought back Lots of memories!!!! But protests won't work. The only thing that will really work is to quit ebay all the way.

Love the stones...protest? Has that ever done any good with these people - they're far too greedy.

That wasn't the Stones, that was Eric Burden and the Animals. I think the flip side of the 45 was Sandoz and as good as song as paint it black, just didn't get played. Eric Burden became an artist, painting, I think his voice is gone.

Protests DO work! Fortunately us Brits are made of hardy stuff; we don't throw in the towel that easily!

The Aims of Clean Up Ebay (CUE) Weekend

1)To demonstrate the mass protest by sellers in reaction to the fee hike and reduced visibility in shops. We are real people, with real incomes, with real families.
2)To help sellers diversify their stock into other outlets. Ebay are a monopoly. They know it, which is why they think they can get away treating their sellers with contempt.
3)To draw public attention to the unethical practices and ‘bully boy’ tactics exercised by Ebay (e.g. sale of illicit items, the unjust removal of protesters' listings).
4) To get Bill + Meg Out / or get them (or their replacements) to listen to their customers.
5) To close the degree of alienation between buyer and seller in the eBay environment, generated by ebay's inability to crackdown on scammers.

What we are doing:

Clean Up Ebay campaign is set to start on the night of Thursday 14th Sept and end on the night of Monday the 18th Sept.

The protest will be slightly different from the last one. It is not just a 1 day listings strike, but a 4 day one in an attempt to cure Ebay of their hearing problem. We will also be asking BUYERS not to buy on Ebay during this period (great news for EBid etc).

Furthermore, as well as the listings strike, we aim to build up a list of dodgy items, ready to be 'reported'.

Our last protest on the 15th August generated considerable media interest:

Here's just a couple:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_ZFThSM6Rk
http://www.channel4.com/news/special-reports/special-reports-storypage.jsp?id=3012 (click 'watch this report').

Ebay HQ was bombarded with 1000s of phone calls from customers asking if they were open that day!

We've already had contact with several papers and journalists who are going to cover CUE.

If anyone is interested in participating, contact CORE (Campaign of Rebuffed Ebayers) on ebayprotestgroup@googlemail.com

Protest do work because ebay is now starting to feel the pain. Read this thread
http://forums.ebay.com/db2/thread.jspa?threadID=2000214847&tstart=0&mod=1157378616043

Ebid has gained massive numbers of new sellers, and as its operations spread over several locations the same as Greedbay, I suspect this may well be the one that will prove a serious challenge. The sooner one becomes the next biggest player to ebay the better it will be for sellers and buyers.

Hats off to the Brits and all others who are voicing their thoughts, rights, etc. I agree - that protests can work - even if the desired outcome is different than the planned one. Exposure of the 'general feeling' is a great thing - and I wish you all the best in your efforts!! Very Happy Very Happy

I like that the protest had a 'plan' !! Very cool! Wink

Hats off Junkyard - cool video and a point well made.

The Brits used the Rolling Stones so guess it's now a challenge to the US eBayers, maybe Britney Spears singing "Oops I fee hiked again"? Or perhaps the Australians can use Rolf Harris singing "Bid me Kangaroo Up Sport".

10/10 for effort and I will support the capmaign on CUE weekend.

Ebay tries to convince you thatyou don't get traffic elsewhere. It isn't true, just had another one on one of my new homes. Just leave 'em to stew in their own debts.

Oh, just checked, its was the Stones, I just remember Eric Burdon doing it for some reason. But, those were pretty foggy years.

I still feel that the only way to really get ebay's attention is not to just boycott, but to totally remove yourselves from the ebay selling platform.

Ebay is getting far too much free publicity from this. It is making sure its name is out there, whether good or bad.

Tell me, why should they listen when they think they are the only game in town and they KNOW that as soon as the prescribed boycott is over, these same sellers will be back??? Gnat sting!!

Boycots were tried back in Feb 05 also. Ebay laughed. Oh, a token fee reduction.

Oh I wish them luck, and I truly am behind them. I left ebay in Jan 05.

mojavelyn - the stones are my favorit group. Funny when they started out Mick was the same age as me...now he's a few years younger Smile How did he do that?

To the poster from UK, I have no doubt you folks will accomplish what US can't. You're numbers seem more dedicated - ours more fickle. I just read a thread on the Ebay Stores discussion board. The opening post was about how people are closing their Ebay stores and listing elsewhere. That post was met with jokes about how things never sell anywhere else. These people are fools and a perfect example of why I say protests do not work...at least not in the US. The sellers themselves have no faith in other venues and don't want to move their lazy butts in order to support some of them. I, myself, am on Yessy, Etsy and Artbyus. I don't make many sales there but I fully realize that you have to start somewhere. If more people did this and wrote their buyers the tables would change. Personally, I am waiting for that day when Ebay sits down and eats crow!!!

Ebay's share price is not great is it? The media coverage we gained in the last protest has drawn attention to Ebay's declining number of listings as sellers now increasingly experiment with other venues (the Google ad-merger was well timed wasn't it). One of the key aspects of this campaign is to draw attention to the number of listings on Ebay compared to other sites (e.g. Ebid).

During CUE we intend on mass-reporting the number of dodgy listings (and there are a considerable number) on Ebay. How will the listing comparisons look after CUE? I wouldn't want to be an Ebay shareholder at that precise moment. We also intend on calling for the heads of Whitman and Cobb (as might shareholders in the imminent weeks).

We appreciate the US are not renowned for their 'fighting spirit' and it is very easy to find excuses not to participate in a protest. However, its a slightly different case with regards to the Brits and the Ozzies. With enough FUD (fear, uncertainty, and doubt) with regards to the positions of Whitman, Cobb and Ebay's share price, we believe results can be achieved. We plan oh holding regular protests until this happens. In the interim, we are promoting other sites to buyers in order to break that monopoly, and to ensure BUYERS are aware of other outlets (via our media interviews and press releases). This is not just a 'sellers' protest, we aim to get as many buyers on board as possible too.
