portocall - And yet, ebay itself has been the leading cause behind the DEMISE of the auction format for the last 3 or 4 years.
Explain your reasoning on this quote. As I see it eBay is one of the only ones that actually have a Auction Platform. I see many people touting the Alt sites and how great they are, I have not had that experience. These same Alt sites do not have real live Auctions, they are almost all 100 percent BIN.

They are pricing auctions out of their own system the start prices for auctions are going up constantly as
BIN sellers pricing is going down.
They mess around with the search so much that people find their items going for nothing after it has not come up in the search, as the search is changing so much on a daily basis at times it is getting impossible to list anything that is worth anything for fear of selling it for nothing, as auction sellers have to be first in search, as they only have that one moment for a sale in many cases.
the quality of goods listed on ebay is constantly going down.
They have enforced returns on auction goods, for any reason, so the buyer just has to say they changed their mind and the return has to be accepted. Part of the fun of auctions was the risk and the thrill of the bidding system, getting caught up in it and having to have it. Wheres the fun when the buyer can say no I've changed my mind once they have messed up the auction for the seller. Buyer remorse is a monster to an ebay auction seller.
They have hidden bidders so that buyers that assumed they were being shilled before now are more definite than ever possibly damaging the whole system.
The bid used to be a contract. The bid means nothing now.
I have been watching the sellers to be most effected by the "good seller" changes, and the big
BIN sellers tend to be safe from any problems, as they list in hundreds, the unique goods sellers that use auctions are limited by how many they can list, as each item has to be photographed, described with every detail and then packed when sold. So how are the unique goods sellers that use auctions as their platform going to survive under the ebay feedback kick system? At the moment they are using at least ten accounts and bidding on their own goods to give themselves glowing feedback, which is going to be drawn and quartered if the buyer takes up the trading standards offer.
Just look at the ebay regulation changes over the past few years, and ask yourself how would they benefit auction sellers. You will find almost all benefit the large
BIN sellers and in a lot of case are detrimental to auction sellers.
Could probably go on all night and list them but I am not a lawyer with a mobile phone so this will have to do.
You are right about the alternatives and auctions, as I think once ebay turns them off, the auction format will be dead to the small user, as the alternatives rely on Google, and google will only show ebays auctions.

More free advertising for ebay.
So,someone with too much time on his hands spends a load of money on his mobile phone buying antiques.
So what?
Maybe he needs to get out more.
